Amy Burnham Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hahn Funeral Home on Apr. 11, 2025.
Amy Burnham, 59, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2025, in her beloved hometown. Born on August 9, 1965, in Mishawaka, Indiana to the late Stanley and Ruth Harkins. Amy was a beacon of joy and compassion in the lives of those who knew her. Her sense of humor and zest for life, left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Amy had a precious heart and soul. She was always in good spirits and had a loving smile on her face. Her laugh was irresistible-contagious and full of life, often lifting the spirits of everyone around her.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Stanley and Ruth Harkins; her sister, Nancy Kitt; her brother, Donald Harkins; her nephew, Aaron Stratton; and her cherished cat, Benny, who brought her many years of comfort and companionship.
Amy is survived by her loving daughter, Kara Eshelman, who was her pride and joy; her former sister-in-law, Joan Harkins; her nephew, Pete Harkins; and her adored cat, Mimi.
Through her work at Martin's deli counter, Amy's cheerful presence became a staple to her coworkers and customers alike. Amy had a profound love for animals, delighting in the company of her cats and feeding the local squirrels. Her home was filled with the soft sounds of purring cats and the fragrance of blooming flowers from her well-tended garden.
Her presence in this world was a gift, and she will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.
No formal services will be held at this time. Hahn Funeral Home has been entrusted to handle the final arrangements.
If you would like to make donations in memory of Amy, the family asks that donations be made to the local humane society, Humane Society of St. Joseph County, 2506 Grape Rd, Mishawaka, IN.

Kara, sending you strength today and peace in all the difficult days ahead. Those who live in our memories are never truly gone, and boy, do I have great memories of your Mom.

I met your Mom on the first day of first grade at Mary Phillips School and we never looked back. We shared school lunches, crushes, love of Rollerskating and volleyball at Battel Park. We rode our used Sting Ray bicycles EVERYWHERE. All things were possible if you had a bike in the 70´s. Later, we shared vacations, our first driving experiences including cruising´ 20. We shared our first beers together which included stealing Nancy´s Barnaby´s Mug Club Card and fighting over corner pieces at Barnabys, our favorite pizza place. We even had a joint High School Graduation Party. We were always together celebrating all the significant events: weddings, Baby Shower, Your Birth and Birthdays when you were little.
Your Mom was the kindest, most gentle person I have ever known. She loved you so much. You were her World.
Sending you a very strong hug to let you know you are in my heart and thoughts. Rachel Means
