Amy V. Schwarz

Amy Volkert Schwarz, age 90, of Newport News, died on Saturday, January 18, 2025. Amy was born on March 16, 1934, to the late William F. and Gladys Spencer Volkert in Pennsylvania. She was a very active member of her church, St. Mark Lutheran Church, acting as head of liturgical arts and a choir member. Amy was very independent, proudly living alone at the age of 90. She was a talented seamstress and passionate gardener. In addition to her parents, Amy was preceded in death by her husband, Gustav G. Schwarz, her sister, Gladys Pye. Amy is survived by her children, Carol Salber, Ruth Keane (David), and Alma Cole (Rob). Grandchildren Veronica, Christopher, Joseph, Elizabeth, Melissa, Nicholas, Robert, and 14 great-grandchildren. Brother-in-law Everett Pye also survives her. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at St. Mark Lutheran Church at 3:00 pm. The inurnment will be private. Services under the direction of Hogg Funeral Home & Crematory.
