Amy Nichole (Hull) Vaus, age 29, of Monterey, passed away, Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at the home of her mother-in-law, Lorrie Vaus, in Monterey.

She was born April 19, 1996 in Harrisonburg, the second daughter to Melissa (Wright) Hull and the late Russell “Beatle” Lee Hull. On October 6, 2018 she married her high school sweetheart, Evan Alan Vaus, and in 2020 together, they welcomed their greatest blessing, Lorrissa Nichole.

Amy graduated from Highland High School in 2014 and worked as a waitress before going on to become a Pharmaceutical Technician. Amy worked at Highland Medical Center Pharmacy from March 2016 until October 2019, when she was diagnosed with cancer.

If you were lucky enough to know her before she was sick, you know she was the life of the party, funny, wild, carefree, down for whatever girl. But if you knew Amy after she got sick, that’s the real blessing to your life. She was the strongest, bravest, most selfless person many have ever known. Through the entire six-year battle with her cancer, Amy fought. The first time she chose her baby girl over herself was when she received her diagnosis during her pregnancy. She continued to choose that baby girl for the next 6 years. Against everything doctors told her was possible, she lived. You would find her at truck pulls, cookouts, camping, and carrying that wild and precious little girl wherever she wanted to go. She did all of this while fighting through chemo, radiation, gamma knife, etc. You would even find her trying to make you a plate of food first before herself; if that’s not courage and selflessness at its finest, then we don’t know what is. The most incredible thing about Amy was that she fought her battle with joy and hope like never seen before.

We can all learn from Amy to face life’s trials with grace and faith in God. If we lean into Him and trust His plan, we can truly have peace no matter what is coming. We can run straight into the fire with full confidence in the One who made us.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Carolyn Kay Wright, Thelma “Mae” (Doyle) Hull, and Russell Edward Hull.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of seven years, Evan; their daughter, Lorrissa Nichole; mother, Melissa Hull of Monterey; sisters, Emily Stephenson and husband, William “Wilber” of Monterey, Andrea Hull of Monterey, Chasity Godshall and husband, Steve of Rockingham; grandfather, Johnny Wright and wife, Karen of Monterey; nephews, Weston and Wyatt Stephenson, and Isiah and Quintin Garland; niece, Kaitlyn Wilson; great-nephew, Zayn Garland; mother-in-law, Lorrie Vaus of Monterey; brother-in-law, Kenan Vaus of San Diego, Ca.; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, as well as many countless friends.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, November 2, 2025 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell with pastor Ronnie Breen officiating. Burial will follow in Chapman-Halterman Cemetery (aka, Anice Hevener Cemetery) located on Forks of Water Road.
