Amy Jean "Wilson" Watson

Amy Jean Wilson Watson passed away peacefully at home on January 15, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 19, 1930, in Shelby, North Carolina, to Dr. Robert Wilson, the local optometrist, and Miriam Wilson, a member of the DAR who was very active in her community.

After growing up in Shelby, Amy attended Limestone College in Gaffney, NC, and finished her degree in journalism at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Upon graduation, she was set to begin work at a radio station in Charlotte when family friends introduced her to Max Watson, the love of her life and her future husband, as well as a Gainesville native. The two married 6 months later.

Amy and Max went on to have four children and eventually moved back to Gainesville, where they had a loving marriage and a happy home. Amy was a wonderful and beloved mother who raised her children with much love, kindness, and support. She was also a beloved grandmother, great- grandmother, and great-great-grandmother who showed all those in her family the same loving and generous spirit throughout the rest of her days. Amy was a long-time member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Gainesville where she taught Sunday School for many years and was actively involved in the WMU, Bible School, and the Shut-In outreach program. She will be greatly missed.

Amy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 60 years, Max Watson Sr., and her eldest son, Max Watson Jr., her brother, Bobby Wilson, and her granddaughter, April Watson Cook.

She is survived by her son, Lindsey (Denise) Watson, her daughters Hope (Randall) Hulsey, Mimi (Richard) Cundiff, her grandchildren Gabriel (Lori) Watson, Chance Watson, Raina Cundiff, and Ian Cundiff, and many great-grandchildren and great- great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday January 19, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Rev. David Matthews and Rev. Matthew Vandegriff will officiate. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday January 17, 2026 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Little & Davenport Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Gainesville, GA, in memory of Mrs. Watson.
