Andre E. Poueymirou, a beloved figure known for his independent spirit and skilled hands, passed away in his Montclair home on February 9, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on October 31, 1934, in Manhattan, New York, Andre dedicated his life to both public service and engineering, leaving behind a remarkable legacy that will be cherished by his family and friends.
Andre began his career as a New York Police officer in the early 1960s, exemplifying a commitment to protecting and serving his community. Following his service in the police force, he pursued a degree in Electrical Engineering from City College in New York City, which propelled him into a successful career at New York Telephone. His work in the telecommunications field showcased his expertise and passion for technology.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Andre proudly served in the United States Army during peacetime. He was a man of many talents and interests; he found joy in working on cars, often tackling repairs and restorations on his own, a testament to his resourcefulness and mechanical skills.
Andre is survived by his loving family, including his sons, Andrew Poueymirou (and daughter-in-law, Rosemary), Joseph Poueymirou (and daughter-in-law, Alice), and Michael Poueymirou (and daughter-in-law, Bayne). He is also survived by his daughter, Anne Stusnick, and his beloved grandchildren: Sean (and his wife Jacquelyn), Daniel, Julia, Marie, Celia, and Emily, who will always remember their grandfather fondly. He shared a close bond with his brother, Roger Poueymirou, and his brother-in-law, Chris McKenna.
Preceding him in death was his devoted wife, Mary Poueymirou, who stood by his side for 58 wonderful years. He is also preceded by his parents, Jean and Marie Poueymirou, whose legacy and values shaped the man he became.
A mass to honor Andre's life will be held at St. Cassian Church in Montclair, NJ, on February 15, 2025, starting at 10:00 AM, followed by interment at Immaculate Conception Cemetery at 11:15 AM.
As we remember Andre E. Poueymirou, we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by love, dedication, and an undying commitment to family and community. His memory will forever reside in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
