Mr. Hernandez was born on October 2, 1954, in El Sabino Chico, Mexico, to Isaias Sierra and Jacinta Hernandez, and died Thursday, April 11, 2024, in Lufkin.
Mr. Andres loved The Lord with all his heart and lived it out in his daily life. His upbringing was humble and rough without a father in the picture to show him the way. Although he did not complete high school, he later in life completed a four year minister course to become an ordained minister while raising nine children and working full time. His marriage started rocky, but his life was completely transformed after he gave his life to Jesus. His wife often quotes John 2:10, "Everyone serves the good wine first and when people have drink freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now." God refined their love over time and saved the good wine until the later years of their relationship.
Mr. Andres was a man of many hats, some of which included carpenter, plumber, truck driver and evangelist. He served in missions to Nicaragua, Panama, Mexico, but his primary mission was to ensure all his kids knew about Jesus. He was not one for parties or gatherings that weren't centered on Christ and reaching the lost. Because as he saw it, "sin Dios, no tiene chiste". As far as his children can remember, their father always worked. When they were kids, he would return from the sawmill and his clothes and lunch box always smelled of sawdust. He took his obligation to discipline his kids very seriously. It never failed, whenever one of them would misbehave, he would give them a long sermon in his room about the Lord's way. His hobbies included woodwork, truck driving, fried shrimp on Sundays, and loving on baby animals. He seldom had free time, but when he did he could be found playing his guitar and singing "coritos" with the family.
In December of 2021 he became sick, but he always aimed to get well again because he had big plans to preach the word around the world. He never got better physically, but his resolve to evangelize only got stronger. As his body deteriorated, he would spend his good days building sermons and uploading them on YouTube. Throughout his life Andres ministered the word of God to prisoners, children in Sunday school, daughters' boyfriends and basically anyone that would listen.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Caridad Hernandez of Lufkin, TX; son, Juan D. Hernandez of Lufkin, TX; daughter, Providencia Hernandez of Lovelady, TX; daughter, Maria M. Hernandez of Lufkin, TX; son, Isaac Hernandez of Lufkin, TX; daughter and husband, Maria D. Machuca and Isaias O. Machuca of El Campo, TX; daughter, Abigail Hernandez of Diboll, TX; daughter, Rosio Hernandez of Lufkin, TX; daughter, Rubi Hernandez of Rupa, Uganda; son, Israel Hernandez of Grapeland, TX; Grandchildren, Daniel A. Rios, Emanuel S. Rios, and Elias S. Rios; Siblings, Juan Hernandez, Gustavo Hernandez, Sara Hernandez, Juana Hernandez, Aurora Hernandez, and Ines Trejo; along with many loved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaias Sierra and Jacinta Hernandez; daughter, Maura Alisia Hernandez; son, Elias Hernandez; sister, Jacinta Hernandez; brothers, Francisco Hernandez, Luis Trejo, Vidal Trejo, and Gonzalo Trejo.
Pallbearers will be Juan Hernandez, Juan D. Hernandez, Isaac Hernandez, Israel Hernandez, Isaias O. Machuca, and Daniel Rios.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Shafer Funeral Home.
