Andres "Andy" Yanez
November 10, 1953 – May 12, 2024
Andres Armando Yanez was the second son born to Ramon and Rebecca Yanez in East Los Angeles. Andy, as he was known to most, was an extremely outgoing person starting in childhood. His family moved quite often, even to the point of enrolling in the same elementary school twice in the same year! He said that he had two choices – be shy or bring your Kool-Aid with you. He opted for bringing the Kool-Aid. And he continued to do that all his life.
Andy saw the value of getting an advanced degree. He started with junior college taking courses that could be transferred to Cal State Long Beach. However, work demands delayed him in completing quickly. In fact, it took him 20 years to complete his bachelor's in manufacturing. It helped him move up the ladder quickly at work.
Andy first started working with his stepfather in the field of x-ray. Andy took it to another level and took those skills to TRW in 1977. That was just the beginning of his legacy at TRW/Northrop Grumman. Andy worked there for 41 years. He started in the x-ray department, moved to Quality Assurance and had several roles of increasing responsibility, including source inspection of several key subcontractors on the East coast. One of his favorite roles was supporting the Defense Support Program (DSP) including several launches at Cape Canaveral, Florida. Before retiring, he held a position of great responsibility. He was interfacing with upper management, Legal, and various organizations in other segments of Northrop Grumman.
Andy was a fun-loving guy and a bit of a daredevil. He didn't shy away from anything. Sky diving, the thrill rides on top of the Stratosphere, and parachute jumping off of the Stratosphere. However, his first love was baseball. He played softball in the TRW league for many years and even was the President of the softball league for a couple of years. But baseball! He would take in any game that he could. In LA, it was the Dodgers. Recently, it was the Diamondbacks. He and Linda visited all of the major league baseball stadiums.
Andy was dedicated to his family. First was Sandra Lynn in 1977. Serena Andrea joined the family in 1987. His love for them was endless. He lived for his moments with his girls! Andy didn't meet Linda until 1991. In fact, he was assigned to work for her! They were married in 1999. Andy often referred to Linda as the love of his life. They were inseparable. They worked for the same company, commuted together, vacationed, and loved baseball. That was something that they enjoyed until his passing.
Because he was a man of integrity, sensitive, generous and had a great sense of humor, Andy was always well liked and beloved. He is survived by and will be deeply missed by his wife of 25 years, Linda; his three children, Sandra Lynn, Serena Andrea, and Ian Christopher (his stepson); his brother, Ray; his sisters, Rebecca, and Valerie; and 10 grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 11:00 am at Marana Mortuary & Cemetery.

Andy and I met when I was first granted MRB access to work on JWST as a Supplier Quality. At that time, he was recently given the MRB chair. He made you smile and be yourself with his humor and friendly remarks. Andy was always helpful and willing to go the extra mile for anything you needed. Later I came to work with Linda and came to realize that Andy was her husband. Andy would always take time to say hello with a smile on his face and be ready to say something positive and encouraging. Andy will be missed. Blessings to the Yanez Family.

Andy and I met on the DSP Program and spent a lot of time working closely together, especially during the launch campaigns where I really got to know him. We would have long conversations about many work-related issues, but also about parenting as he would share with me (a young father at that time) about his daughters or his stepson. Linda would come out to visit and he would always include her in everything he could. After Andy moved on from DSP, we continued to help each other out on many work-related matters, often calling each other for input. He was always available and was a great encouragement to me, often puffing me up in front of others. May God rest his soul, and may his family find comfort knowing he is in good hands.
