Andrew Bell Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Andrew Bell Jr., a beloved father,
grandfather, brother, and friend, who left this world peacefully on October 4, 2025, at the age of
91. Andrew was born on December 26, 1933, in St. Louis, Missouri, and lived a life filled with
courage, laughter, and love.
Andrew's military service as an Army E-9 Sergeant Major (Ret.) was a defining chapter of his
life. He proudly served in the Special Forces and as a medic during both the Korean and Vietnam
wars, earning several distinguished awards including the Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze
Star, Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal.
His dedication to service did not end with his military career; he later spent time mentoring
young men in the Department of Corrections as a guidance counselor, and he served as a security
officer at the Pikes Peak Library.
Andrew was not only committed to his profession but to his community. He was an active
member of organizations such as the Buffalo Soldiers and the E-9 volunteer group. His passion
for sharing history and values inspired many, especially the younger generations. He also
brought joy to countless lives through his involvement with the New Horizons Senior Band,
where he shared his love of music and played his trumpet both in band settings and intimate
family jam sessions.
Andrew cherished his family above all else. He is survived by his son, Byron Bell, and daughter-
in-law, Juliette Bell. His grandchildren, Oliver Bell and Talisha Bell, were his pride and joy, and
he loved teaching them how to ride his cherished horse, Champ. Andrew is also survived by his
sister, Brianna Bell Calmin, brother-in-law William Dowell, cherished stepson Patrick Ingrassia
and wife Kelly, cherished stepdaughter Pam (Shawn), cherished step-grandchildren Blake, Kai,
Kade, Lyrik, Nuncio, and Mykel, stepdaughter Sandy (Joe) and a host of nieces and nephews. He
was also deeply loved by his late, first wife's family - especially Mary Hurst.
He also leaves behind, Helga Bell.
Andrew's life was filled with laughter and storytelling-he loved to share tales of his military
adventures and experiences, often bringing smiles and warmth to those around him. He was
known for his generosity of spirit, always willing to lend a helping hand, whether it was assisting
fellow veterans or spending quality time with family and friends. A lover of nature, he found joy
in fishing trips with family and enjoyed skiing well into his 70s. His love for jazz music filled his
home, creating an atmosphere of joy and connection.
A visitation will be held on October 20, 2025, from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM at the Angelus Chapel
Funeral Home, located at 1104 S. Circle Dr, Colorado Springs, CO 80910.
A celebration of Andrew's life will be held on October 21, 2025, at 9:00 AM at the Angelus
Chapel Funeral Home and internment will follow at the Pikes Peak National Cemetery, located at
10545 Drennan Road Colorado Springs, CO 80925.
The family invites all who knew Andrew to come and honor his remarkable life and all the ways
he touched our hearts.
In gratitude, the family extends their heartfelt thanks to the VA caregivers and the compassionate
staff at Memorial Hospital for their unwavering support and care.
Andrew will be profoundly missed, yet his legacy of kindness, strength, and love will continue to
resonate within all who were fortunate enough to know him. Rest in peace, dear Andrew, and
thank you for your service.
