"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." – Psalm 116:15
Faithful woman of God, loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and
friend-Marilyn Denise (Niecy) Davis was a beacon of light and a pillar of strength to all
who knew her. She brought levity and joy to every room and was the glue that held
friends and family together. She truly loved God and her family, and was dearly loved
and cherished in return.
Marilyn Denise Davis received her heavenly promotion on Monday, September 22,
2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was swiftly ushered into the presence of the
Lord, and we are comforted knowing that she is joyfully reunited with loved ones in
Heaven.
With hearts full of gratitude for a life, well-lived, we honor the legacy of Sister Marilyn
Davis, a devoted servant of the Lord who spent her life uplifting her community through
prayer and service.
Marilyn was born on December 15, 1953, in Detroit, Michigan, to John L. Seaberry and
Helen Jean Davis - Dabbs. She lived in Independence, Kansas, where she graduated
from Independence High School, became the first Black Homecoming Queen at
Independence Community College, and faithfully attended services at Young's Chapel
under the leadership of Superintendent Melvin Simpson, where she was an active
member of YWCC.
She united in marriage with Bobby Davis of Independence, Kansas, and later divorced.
The two remained good friends until his passing. Marilyn eventually moved to Colorado
Springs, where she found great joy in her work as a Donor Sponsor Representative
at Compassion International. In this role, she not only played a vital part in
transforming the lives of children living in poverty but also traveled internationally to
witness the impact of her work firsthand. Her journeys took her to Haiti, the Dominican
Republic, and Brazil, where she saw the faces of hope and faith in communities she
helped uplift. Marilyn personally sponsored several children, and through her consistent
financial support and heartfelt correspondence, she helped provide access to education,
healthcare, nutritious food, and spiritual guidance. Her work and sponsorship were more
than a job-they were a personal ministry and a sacred commitment to nurturing hope,
dignity, and opportunity in a child's life.
In Colorado Springs, Marilyn was a faithful member of the Israelite Church of God in
Christ, under the leadership of Bishop Roosevelt Dunn and later under the
leadership of Pastor Earnest Dunn, where she served with humility and joy. She
served in many capacities at the church including the Sunday School Superintendent for
Department One, the Usher board and was a faithful member of the Evangelism team.
Passing out tracks to the lost was something she was very passionate about. Her
radiant spirit touched countless lives within the church and beyond. Marilyn welcomed
her Mother, Helen McIntosh to Colorado Springs and became her full time care-giver
while still working.
One of Marilyn's favorite scriptures was, "Train up a child in the way he should go,
and when he is old he will not depart from it." - Proverbs 22:6 Marilyn's greatest
joy was being a mother to her beloved son, Elder Corey Demetreus Davis, of whom she
was exceptionally proud. Their bond was rooted not only in love but in a shared
devotion to God. From his earliest days, Sister Marilyn's life was a living testimony of
that scripture, and nurtured Corey's spiritual foundation with prayer and wisdom. Her
legacy continues in the lives she helped shape through faith and love.
Preceding Marilyn in death are her mother, Helen Jean McIntosh (Davis-Dabbs), Father,
John L. Seaberry, stepfather J.R. McIntosh, sisters Patricia Ann Yates (Seaberry) and
Sharon Yvonne Seaberry, and niece Carissa Marina Barbera.
She leaves behind a host of loved ones who celebrate her life:
Her son Elder Corey Demetreus Davis Sr, and his wife LaSharron Nicole Davis
Her grandchildren Corey Demetreus Davis Jr, Asia Nicole Davis, and Brian
Christopher Davis and her goddaughter Sicily Juniel
Her beloved brother John Lee Seaberry Jr
Her cherished sister Lolita Young (Kansas City)
Seven nieces whom she spoiled rotten and who loved her fiercely: Felicia Renae
Barbera, Jama Latrice Vinnie Forman (Seaberry), Jenice Yvonne Bosch
(Seaberry), Jessica Ann Martinez (Seaberry) (Gilbert Arizona), Sharona Lee
Seaberry (Oklahoma City), Diana Luisa Meraz(Seaberry), Maria Guadalupe
Seaberry, Jasmine Marietta Seaberry
One beloved nephew, John Lee Seaberry III
And a host of other family and friends who celebrate her life and rejoice in her
eternal reward.
"Well done, good and faithful servant." – Matthew 25:21
