Andrew W. Gawlik

Andrew W. Gawlik, 79, of Scranton, passed on Wednesday morning at home with his loved ones at his side. Born in Scranton, he is the son of the late Andrew and Eugenia Gawlik. Andrew was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, owner of Gawlik Plumbing and Heating, an Army Veteran who proudly served as an MP in Vietnam, and long-time parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church.
Rarely without coffee cup in hand, Andy devoted his life to service as a loving, attentive father and mentor to countless youth while coaching Little League and as Scoutmaster of Troop 42 where he was affectionately known as "Mr. G.". A faithful fan of the Yankees and avid dancer, when not catching a game on TV he could usually be found cutting a rug on the dance floor. It is impossible to distill a lifetime of action into so few words, but the enormity of the positive impact he had on others as he passed through life is certain.
Andy is survived by five children, Andrew W. Gawlik and wife Julia, Milford; Erin Gawlik and partner, George Schlett, Spring Brook; Samantha Wilczewski and husband Adam, Olyphant, Victoria Belcher and husband Robert, Fort Bragg, NC, Chelsea Powell and husband Randall, Gatesville, TX, 10 grandchildren, a sister, Carol, his partner Alice Jones, former wife Kathleen Gawlik, nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Allied Hospice, especially Jennifer for her care and guidance.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, at 10 am, at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 801 Taylor Avenue, Scranton, 18510. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be on Monday, 5 to 8 PM in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton.
