Mr. Andrew Jacobson, 100, of 3691 Dickersonville Road, Ransomville, NY and formerly of Mont Alto, PA, entered into eternal rest at 4:25 P.M. Monday, October 18, 2010 in the Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. He was born on September 15, 1910 in Grass Flat, PA; he was the son of the late George and Elizabeth (Gaylo) Jacobson, who emigrated from Austria- Hungary in 1896. He lived his early life in the Grass Flat area. Mr. Jacobson attended Cooper Township School in Clearfield County, PA. He and his late wife, Mrs. Margaret E. (Heffler) Jacobson, were married on February 24, 1934 in Holidaysburg, PA. They moved to Waynesboro area in 1946 and then to Constitution Avenue address in Mont Alto, PA in 1954. Mrs. Jacobson died February 10, 1999. Mr. Jacobson moved to Ransomville in 2009 to be with his son and daughter-in-law Donald and Barbara Jacobson. At age 16 he took his father's place working as a coalminer. Later he was employed as an aircraft mechanic for Bell Aircraft in Niagara Falls, NY for five years until it consolidated with Vultee Aircraft Mfg. in Allentown, PA, and he then continued with the company for one year. He then went to worked for Fairchild Aircraft Manufacturing in Hagerstown, MD for 25 years also a mechanic. Then prior to retiring in September 1976 he worked for Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, PA as a mechanic. Mr. Jacobson also owned and operated a gun shop from his home. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Quincy, PA; Waynesboro Fish and Game Association; Lutheran Brotherhood, national AARP; Federal Fire Arms Association and the National Rifle Association. Mr. Jacobson read his Bible and had prayed daily, was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed watching baseball, and working around his home and maintaining a vegetable garden throughout his life. He recently celebrated his 100th birthday with many family members traveling to attend the party at his son Donald's home. He really appreciated the love that his family shared with him on that special day. He especially treasured the many birthday cards and photographs he received. He lived an honest, hard-working Christian life. He will be remembered for teaching family about nature through his many skills and experiences. He had a century worth of stories that he loved to share. His Sense of humor and steadfast nature will be sorely missed by all. Andrew's first words in heaven will be: 'hi-yah". He is survived by one son, Donald T. Jacobson, wife Barbara of Ransomville, NY, 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, one brother, Stephen Jacobson, wife Annette, of Lanse, PA, three sister-in-laws, Vivian Jacobson, Loretta Heffler Wells, Ada Heffler Levine, his daughter-n-law, Ruth Ann Jacobson of York, PA and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Bonnie Susan Kahl, one son, Andrew E. Jacobson, one great-grandson, Wayne Jacobson, one sister, Elizabeth Bugosh, three brothers, George Jacobson, John J. Jacobson and Emil Jacobson. Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 23, 2010 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 8469 Anthony Highway, Quincy, with Rev. James M. Russell officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg. Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad Street, Waynesboro.
