Captain Andrew "Andy" Litchfield Jensen
April 10, 1950 - June 20, 2024
Andy Jensen, a resident of Slinger, passed Thursday morning at Zilber Family Hospice, after a short battle with illness.
He was born on April 10, 1950, in Ashland, WI, the third child of Nolan Norman Jensen and Sarah Glenys (Litchfeild) Jensen.
He graduated from Ashland High School, Class of 1968. From there, the water called.
Andy started working as a deck hand on the William B. Schiller ore-boat. He quickly worked his way up countless boats and ranks becoming the youngest captain on the Great Lakes. For 9 years he helmed the 1,004-foot George A. Stinson.
He also spent time on ocean going vessels and tugs. Between the Great Lakes and Oceans, he sailed for over 40 years. Andy loved sailing and would tell you everything he knew about the ports, places, and people he met as he sailed the world. The stories were captivating and full of humor.
He traveled the world but always came back home to Ashland. He married Linda Alice Heglund on March 21, 1987, and his son Nolan Andrew Jensen was born the following year.
Andy was the most generous man imaginable, to both his friends and complete strangers. Through the years he had given away cars, boats, motorcycles, and countless bikes. Seeing people happy, brought him more joy than the items themselves.
He is survived and greatly missed by his wife, Linda Jensen, son, Nolan (Jennifer) Jensen, Stepson Daniel O'Connell, grandchildren, Tenley Jensen, Paxton Jensen, and Alexandria O'Connell, siblings Jane (Dave) Buska, Linda (Arnold) Coe, Donald Jensen, Barbara Moody, Terrie (Ray) Stuart, sister-in-law Colleen Jensen, and many nieces and nephews that meant the world to him.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, Nolan and Sarah Jensen and his brother, David Jensen.
Andy wished not to have a funeral, but a celebration of life is being planned for later this year or next in Ashland, a place near and dear to his heart.
Andy was cremated, and his final resting place will be in the Bering Sea, one of the few places he did not reach in his travels. Next time you are on the water, look to the horizon, and take a moment to remember Andy.
