Andrew M. "Andy" Kane Jr., 74, of New Windsor, New York, passed away peacefully on December 12th, 2024.
Born on July 28th, 1950, in the Bronx, New York, to Andrew and Eileen (Rooney), he was the second of five children. After leaving the Bronx, the family moved to Rockland County, New York, where Andy grew up with his siblings and neighborhood friends, who were like family.
Anyone who knew Andy probably knew him through his involvement with youth sports and his own high school involvement in sports, especially football. He coached youth football in Rockland County, and later, when he moved to Orange County, New York, he also became very involved with youth football as well as helping organize a travel baseball team, one of the first teams to play at Cooperstown Dreams Park, where he and his family spent quite a few summers. Back in the day, Andy would boast about his 'dancing skills' and winning a few dance contests at one of the local Catholic school dances. Yes, he was a good dancer, except for the twist! He loved his Motown music, but he also had a great love for Frank Sinatra, swing, and Christmas Carols, as he blasted them every holiday season! (Yikes!!) Along with art, ceramics, and history, Andy had many interests.
Andy was a man of many 'hats,' and for sure you would never see him without one! Proudly sporting his Notre Dame, New York Yankees, and New York Giants hats! Notre Dame and the Fighting Irish, where Andy had been quite a few times, was something more than a thrill for him. Anytime he talked about it, it became an emotional conversation. He held true to his heritage, and for sure had the Fighting Irish in him right until the very end.
During the summer of 2023, although he was fairly sick with his illness, he was over the moon excited to be able to attend his last ever NY Yankees game with his son Andrew and grandson Drew. He later said to me that day, "Now I can go; now that I took Andrew (Drew)to his first Yankee game, I can die in peace!" His two grandsons Andrew and Kevin were the twinkle that never left his eyes. He loved them dearly and had so many great plans for the future.
Andy is survived by his wife, Linda (Hastings) Kane, his son, Andrew M. Kane III, and daughter-in-law, Krystina (Jimenez) Kane, his two grandsons, Andrew M. IV and Kevin Anthony. He is also survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Hughie Hennessy), and their children, Hughie and Emma; his daughter, Melissa (Brian Bonte); his sister, Kathleen Hopkins; his brother, Michael Kane; his wife, Annie; his brother, Gerard Kane; and his wife, Bernadette. Andy will also be terribly missed and leaves behind his mother-in-law, Joan Hastings; his sister-in-law, Janine (Romano) Hastings; his brother-in-law, Kevin Hastings; and his wife, Cathleen (O'Neill) Hastings, as well as many nieces and nephews from both sides of the family.
He is predeceased by his father, Andrew M. Kane; his mother, Eileen (Rooney) Kane; his sister, Eileen Kane; his brother-in-law, William Hopkins; Gerald Hastings Sr.; brother-in-law's; Stephen Hastings; Gerald Hastings Jr.; and Robert Hastings.
Until we meet again, raise hell up there like no other!
You will forever be in our hearts.
A Funeral Mass will be held on January 4th, 2025 at 10:30am.
