Andrew R. Markell

Andrew Ralph Markell, affectionately called "Ralphie," passed away in Frankenmuth, Michigan on January 15, 2026 at the age of 68. Born on January 9, 1958, in Owosso, Andy was the eldest of eight children born to Donald Lee and Theresa (Tkaczyk) Markell. A 1976 graduate of Morrice High School, he spent the majority of his life in Shiawassee County before enjoying his later years in Clare County with his former wife Kelli Markell, who he shared 23 years of his life with.

A gifted tradesman, Andy dedicated many years to his career as a fabrication welder. His skill was well-known; he successfully owned his own business for a time and eventually retired from Burch Tank in Mt. Pleasant, where he specialized in welding tankers.

When he wasn't behind a welding mask, Andy was often found embracing the outdoors. He had a passion for riding his Harley, fishing, hunting, and gardening. He was also a talented cook who enjoyed sharing a meal with those he loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings: David Lee Markell, Diane Allen, and Mary Markell. His memory lives on through his children: Jessica (Jeremy) Holbrook, Jacob Markell (Natalie Jeffrey), Danielle (Tony) Muzzin, and Danika (Austin) Palmer; as well as his 11 grandchildren: Jordan, Matthew, Zakk, Ayva, Charlie, Miley, Jackson, Emersyn, Makenna, Lucas, and Dallas. He is also survived by his siblings: Wendy (Herb) Confer, Alan (Belinda) Markell, Adam (Jenny) Markell, and Aaron (Dawn) Markell.

There will be a Memorial on Monday, January 26th at the Bennington Township Hall, 5849 S Michigan 52, Owosso, MI 48867. Family will be receiving friends and family at 11:00 a.m. with a brief service starting at 11:30 a.m. and lunch provided at noon.
