Andrew Perrella Obituary

Andrew V. Perrella
"Loving father, grandfather and brother"
Andrew V. Perrella, 90, of Middlebury, CT passed away peacefully on Monday, April 28, 2025, at the Center for Comfort Care & Healing, leaving behind a legacy of family, friendships, and faith.
Born in Waterbury, CT on January 8, 1935, Andrew was the son of the late John and Aurora (Guarini) Perrella. He grew up in a large and loving extended family with many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was a proud member of the Crosby High School Class of 1952 and graduated from Fairfield University in 1956 with a degree in Biology.
After Fairfield he went to work for Pratt & Whitney and in June 1957 married the love of his life, Geradine (Poveromo). They were blissfully married for over 61 years until Geraldine's passing in 2018, and made their home for over 53 years in Middlebury, CT. He is survived by three children: son Michael and his wife Alison of Bedford, NH, son Paul of Waterbury, CT and daughter Christine and her husband Matthew Spagnoli of Westbury, NY. He was a loving grandfather to Catherine (Brown) of Nashua NH, Andrew Perrella, Major, USAF, and David Perrella of Epsom NH, Gina Perrella of Waterbury and Samantha Perrella of Naugatuck. He also leaves his sister Rosemary Tessier of Waterbury, CT and an extended family of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Andrew served honorably in the US Army and Reserves from 1956-1960. For most of his professional life he worked at the U.S. Rubber Company which later became Uniroyal Chemical in Naugatuck and later served as the Director of Physical Testing at their research center in Middlebury. During his tenure with Uniroyal, he also served in roles with the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). He retired from full-time employment in 1999 but continued in a part-time role for an additional 5 years. He truly enjoyed many wonderful friendships at Uniroyal.
Andrew was a loyal and dedicated Parishioner of the St. John of the Cross Church in Middlebury from 1969 to 2022, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, a reader, a member of the Parish Council, and a volunteer for many church events especially the Apple Harvest and his favorite event, the annual Book Fair. Attendance at daily Mass and involvement in parish activities was a large part of his retirement life. Andrew was a voracious reader and crossword puzzle enthusiast. He was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and with Geraldine became avid fans of the University of Connecticut women's basketball team.
Some of his favorite moments were vacation time with family and friends on the shores of outer Cape Cod or dinner at the Daniel Webster Inn in Sandwich, MA. With Geraldine and many friends, he loved "road trips" to explore the United States from Williamsburg, Virginia to Salt Lake City, Utah and the national parks of the west.
Andrew lived a life of devotion to his family, community and faith; he will be deeply missed and always remembered.

To Andrew's family,
I am so saddened by the news of Andrew´s passing, and yet it brings comfort to think of him reunited with the love of his life, Gerry.
I have such good memories of my cousin, Andrew. He was always the level-headed one, the kind and thoughtful one. He had a deep respect and love for my father, his Uncle Joe. When we saw each other he would always talk to me about my father (and mother), and it was so genuine and loving. He had a great love of family.
The love between him and Gerry was a beautiful thing to behold, and that love spread out to all his family and friends. The love is what lives on now in you.
May God bless you and comfort you.
