Andrew John Peterson

Dr. Andrew John Peterson of Matthews, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 after a long battle with a debilitating illness.

Andy was born on November 27, 1951 in Clearfield, Pennsylvania to Henry Andrew Peterson and Martha Helen Peterson. After high school, Andy migrated to the West Coast and married his high school sweetheart, Lynnette Elaine Harris. Andy's life was marked by three steady themes: education, Christian service, and family.

Andy, attended and graduated from Clearfield Area High School, class of 1969.

For over forty years, Andy taught and served as an administrator at a number of schools across the country, including Grove City College, Westminster Seminary California, University of California - San Diego, Reformed Theological Seminary, and Western Seminary. Andy also provided years of counseling service at Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation (CA) and beyond. Andy was ordained as a Ruling Elder in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Church in America, serving the congregations of Bayview OPC, Harvest OPC, Matthews OPC, and Christ Covenant PCA. Beyond his hard work and compassionate service, Andy's greatest earthly love was his family, and the most joyful moments of his life came as he encouraged and cheered them on. Everyone knew Andy as a kind, encouraging, and loving man, optimistically seeing the good in people and circumstances of all sorts. Always intellectually curious, Andy's greatest passion was people, attentively listening to their stories and pouring into their lives with biblical wisdom and insightful compassion. Andy continuously sought to serve the Lord with every ounce of his being, and after a lifetime of service he is now resting comfortably with his Lord and Savior.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Martha Krulick. Andy is survived by his wife of nearly 52 years, Lynnette, his son Drew (Cherith) Peterson, his daughter Gwenna (Mike) Garvey, his son Seth (Jennifer) Peterson, his daughter Emma Peterson, and his 13 loving grandchildren. Andy is also survived by his brother David (Jill) Peterson, Rockton, PA, his brother Joel (Cindy) Peterson, Clearfield, PA and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 11:00 am. The service will be at Christ Covenant Church in Matthews, North Carolina with a private burial to follow. Visitation will immediately precede the service. All are welcome to attend. Heritage Funeral Home in Weddington, North Carolina is handling the arrangements.
