In Loving Memory of Andrew Polanin
Andrew Polanin, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and uncle, passed away on August 25th at the age of 73. A man whose heart was always centered on family, Andy lived a full and joyful life surrounded by love, laughter, and adventure.
Born in Chicago on June 13, 1952, Andy built a life defined by dedication, kindness, and an unstoppable curiosity about the world. He shared a deep and abiding love with his wife of 46 years, Nancy, and together they raised their daughters, Vicki, Katie and Julie, who were his pride and joy. His seven grandchildren brought him immeasurable happiness, and he cherished every game, recital, and birthday party - always quick with a smile, a hug, or a tickle to make them giggle.
A man of drive and vision, Andy built a successful career working as a quality assurance executive for global brands such as Wrigley, Morton Salt, and Ferrara Candy that carried him around the world. He approached his work with passion and integrity, leaving behind not only a legacy of business success but also friendships and memories on every continent. He loved to share with his grandchildren his adventures traveling the globe.
When not working and in his retirement, Andy could most often be found on the golf course, where his love of the game was matched only by his enjoyment of the friendships and stories that came with it. He found great joy in retirement working as a starter at Mistwood Golf Course, where he got to be around the game he loved while also chatting up everyone on the course.
He loved to take care of his yard, taking great pride in managing his immaculate lawn and landscaping. He was quick to offer tips and advice to help his sons-in-law get the best out of their yards, and always had time to field questions from them about house projects. When the day was done, nothing pleased him more than savoring a glass of good bourbon.
Andy leaves behind his devoted wife, Nancy; his daughters Vicki (John) Roberts, Katie (William) Houston and Julie (Joe) Savaglio; his seven beloved grandchildren: Jack, Brady and Lyla Roberts, Gianna and Ella Savaglio, Charlotte and Chloe Houston; his mother Alice; his sister Elizabeth (late Richard) Wojtkowski, brothers Thomas (Renee) Polanin and Roman (Sally) Polanin; and countless family, friends and colleagues who were touched by his spirit and sense of humor.
He will be remembered not just for what he accomplished, but for how he lived - with humor, devotion, and an endless love for those closest to him. His was a life well played, and he leaves behind memories that will continue to inspire and uplift all who knew him.
A celebration of Andy's life will be held from 3-8 p.m. on Friday, August 29th at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 301 75th Street, Downers Grove, IL 60516. Prayers 9:15 a.m. Saturday, August 30th at the funeral home to St. Scholastica Church, Woodridge for Mass at 10 a.m. Interment Naperville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, 701 E. Columbia Ave. Cincinnati, OH 45215.
