Andrew Gilbert Shoemaker, known to friends and family as Andy or Drew, passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 in Galveston, TX.
He was born on July 27, 1949 in Keokuk, Iowa to Wayne and Barbara Shoemaker and graduated from Keokuk High School in 1965. Andy worked in factories in and around Keokuk until moving to Texas where he worked for many years in various types of oilfield work. Andy was an avid reader and loved to work crossword puzzles. He enjoyed going fishing and being outside watching the animals. Well-known for his wisdom and wit, he had an answer for everything.
Andy is preceded in death by his father Wayne Shoemaker; mother, Barbara LaVanway; brother, Michael Shoemaker; and sister, Connie Palmer.
Andy is survived by his wife, Adren Chandler Shoemaker of Galveston, Texas; children, Lori Jones of Carnegie, OK, Andrea (Danny) Morriss of Brookesmith, TX, Jason Shoemaker of Monahans, TX; stepson Buster David of Cleveland, TX and stepdaughter Mandie Wofford of Galveston, TX; grandchildren, Jennifer Shoemaker, Tara Jones, Paige Ovanisian, Johnny Morriss, Matthew Morriss; stepchildren, Elton Wofford and great grandson, Alexander Ovanisian; sisters, Jackie ZuFall of Quincy, IL, Jody LeMaster of Reed Springs, MO, Anita LeMaster of Reed Springs, MO and brother, Wesley Shoemaker of Marriam Woods, MO, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Andrew's family will receive visitors on Sunday, April 30, starting at 3:00 PM with a Celebration of Life to follow at 4:00 PM at Malloy & Son Funeral Home, where friends and family will gather to share stories, memories, and laughter of a life well-lived.
Andy's family would like to extend their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of UTMB Galveston for their compassionate care during his final days.
Though we mourn the loss, we also celebrate the life Andy lived and the countless ways he touched the lives of those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew him, and his spirit will continue to inspire us to live our own lives with love, wisdom, and joy.
