Andy Stuart Edwards, 74, of Mebane, NC, formerly of Bladenboro, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 16, 2025. He was born in Robeson County and was the son of the late Horace Cornelius “HC” Edwards and Esther Jane Ward Edwards.
He was the beloved husband of Lynne Elmore Edwards; father to daughter Meghan Macy Edwards and son Stuart Anderson Edwards; and brother to Patsy Edwards Bowman (Jimmie), Betty Edwards Miller (Steve), and Kenneth Cornelius Edwards (Kay).
Andy graduated from Bladenboro High School and Appalachian State University. While in high school he enjoyed playing the trumpet, baseball and football. Upon graduating college, he returned to his hometown and served as head baseball coach, assistant football coach, and vocational counselor at Bladenboro High School. Subsequently, he became an automobile claims adjuster and was named Adjuster of the Year at the county and state levels.
Andy had a love of sports. He not only coached students, but he also played league softball until his mid-forties when knee problems forced him to give that up. He also enjoyed playing golf and watching sports on TV. Andy’s favorite pastime was socializing. He loved people and liked to encourage those who were discouraged. Due to many health issues, his last several years brought about a long and arduous journey. His family will miss his sarcastic sense of humor and the color he brought to our lives.
The family will receive friends at 10:30 am to 11:15 am on May 31, 2025, with a memorial service immediately following at 11:30 am at Galeed Baptist Church in Bladenboro with his nephew, Steven Miller officiating the service. There will be a private burial for immediate family before visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Duke Hospice, 4321 Medical Park Drive, Ste 101, Durham, NC 27704, a local hospice of your choosing, or Galeed Baptist Church.
