Angel Alfonso Ayala, a beloved teacher at Mountain Island Charter School and Pastor of RCDM Ministries, has passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Atrium Health Lincolnton on July 7, 2023. He was born on December 7, 1972, in El Salvador.

Angel was a remarkable individual who touched the lives of many through his career and personal relationships. He will be remembered as a dedicated educator who had a profound impact on the next generation. As a teacher, businessman, entrepreneur, mentor, and community advocate, Angel's proudest accomplishments were numerous and influential.

Angel's passion for teaching was evident every day in the classroom. He not only imparted knowledge but also nurtured and guided his students to become the best versions of themselves. His commitment to education went beyond textbooks; he truly cared about the well-being and success of each student.

Outside of teaching, Angel dedicated himself to serving as a Pastor of RCDM Ministries. His love for God was unwavering, and he brought comfort and solace to countless individuals through his sermons and guidance. Angel's faith was an integral part of his life, driving him to live with kindness, compassion, and forgiveness.

As a social butterfly who never met a stranger, Angel had an uncanny ability to make meaningful connections with people from all walks of life. He possessed a genuine interest in others’ lives and always made sure to ask how they were doing when talking on the phone. Whether it was engaging in conversations with friends or reaching out to strangers for support or inspiration, Angel's warm personality left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him.

Above all else in his life, Angel cherished his family wholeheartedly. He loved his wife Judith Ayala endlessly and took immense pride in being a loving husband. Angel adored his children Isaac Ayala and Ashley Coleman, and he found immeasurable joy in watching them grow and flourish.

Angel's family was the center of his world. He treasured every moment spent together and created countless beautiful memories that will forever be cherished.

To honor the life of Angel Alfonso Ayala, two services have been arranged. The first is a visitation at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home and Cremation in Gastonia on Wednesday, July 12, 2023. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM during this time of solemn remembrance. Following this heartwarming visitation, a Celebration of Life service will begin at 2:00 PM in the same location with Pastor Dwayne Burks officiating. This ceremony will serve as an opportunity to honor Angel's vibrant spirit and the impact he had on all those he encountered.

Angel Alfonso Ayala's legacy lives on through the lives he touched as a teacher, pastor, friend, and dedicated family man. His passion for education, his unwavering faith, and his genuine care for people were truly remarkable. While we mourn the loss of such an extraordinary individual, let us also celebrate the incredible life that was lived with purpose and kindness.

In this time of grieving, our thoughts and prayers go out to Judith Ayala (wife), Isaac Ayala (son), Ashley Coleman and her husband Joshua (daughter), Consuelo Maribel Pleitez (mother), Jose Angel Ayala (father), Alfonso Ross Coleman (grandson), Jose Angel Ayala and his wife Rosa (brother), Angel Oswaldo Ayala and his wife Mary (brother), Emerson Ayala (brother), Norma Ayala (sister), Liseth Ayala (sister), and all of Angel's family and friends who were blessed to have him in their lives. Angel was one of the kindest and likable colleagues that I have had the pleasure of knowing and calling friend in my many years of teaching.
Prayers to all who knew and loved him. His classroom decorations are the nicest that I´ve ever seen. I´m gonna miss telling him jokes and hearing his kind words.

Angel touched my entire families life. I knew him first through MICS. Even though we didn´t work in the same building, I had the honor of getting to know him at a couple of Professional Development classes. Not only was struck immediately by his kind, gentle manner, but I adored his classroom!! It was like stepping into a little villa...just like him, so warm and inviting!

Fast forward a couple years, when my church family approached me and asked me about him. I was a little confused as to why they were asking me about him, but then I found out that he was hired on as one of our pastors. He came in again with his calm, patient spirit and my family and friends began to respect him just as much as I did.

He truly was such an angel on earth. He exemplified everything he stood for and was a class act. Our lives have been changed forever by him and my heart breaks for his family, whom I know have had a huge part of their life taken from them. I know without a doubt that he is standing beside Jesus, watching over all of us, and making music with all the angels. Till we meet again, Angel...we will miss you!

Angel and I started at MICS the same year and I remember the enthusiasm that Angel showed while teaching. His love of his students guided his vision for transforming his boring classroom into a magical space for his students to learn and grow. Always greeting colleagues and students with a huge smile and a warm hug or handshake. Our school will be a little colder without his kindness and warmth shining in the halls.

I had the pleasure of teaching as a downstairs neighbor to Angel. It was fun to hear the games or celebrations going on upstairs. His students loved him and so did we (his peers). Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.
