Angel Hope Swartz, 65, of Brandon passed away on October 30, 2024 after a short battle with brain cancer.

Angel was born on September 26, 1959 in Tupelo, MS. She graduated from Tupelo High School and attended Itawamba Junior College where she met the love of her life, Barry Swartz, at the Baptist Student Union. They were married and she supported him as he attended Blue Mountain College and New Orleans Theological Seminary. During their 46 years of marriage, they had 3 children: Heather, Tiffany, and Clifford. They were also blessed with 20 grandchildren and one great grandchild who were the light of Angel’s life. Her favorite role was as Mommaw and spending time with them was her greatest joy.

Angel was not only a devoted wife and mother, but she found her life’s calling working as a pediatric nurse. She graduated with her RN degree from Hinds Community College in 1993 and began her career in the NICU of University Medical Center. She soon moved to pediatrics and spent most of her career working in the pediatric units of CMMC, River Oaks, Merit Health, and with pediatric home health. In the last few years of her life, she worked as an RN at Kids Kastle, a daycare for medically fragile children. She made it her mission to uplift the children and families that she worked with. She found such joy in bringing smiles to the children’s faces.

Angel touched many hearts throughout her life as a Sunday School teacher, Christian Women’s Job Corps mentor, Charis Retreat Teamer, and friend. She was a constant encourager of those around her. She spent many years adopting elderly shelter dogs, loving them in their final days, and fundraising for those she could not adopt. She shared her love and care with those who needed it in every part of her life and showed those around her how to do the same.

Angel is survived by her beloved husband, Barry, her brother Cobran (Pat) Edwards, her sisters Lee Warren and Nita Smith, as well as her children Heather (Larry) Pilcher, Tiffany (Bradly) Givens, and Clifford (Heather) Swartz. Also, her grandchildren Sarrah (Taylor), Layne, Jayden, Jaycee, Jamari, Big Gabe, Jayden C, Lil Gabe, David, Garrison, Jordan, Billy, Levi, Xander, Skye, Rainer, Calder, June Bradly, Annalise, Lillian, and Tanner.

While we will miss Angel dearly and mourn her greatly, we have joy in knowing that she has eternal life through Christ and now rejoices at our Father’s throne. Our Savior knows our sorrows and by His own wounds, we are healed.

O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:55-57

Visitation will take place Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Park Place Baptist Church in Pearl, MS beginning at 1:30 with a memorial service to follow at 3:00pm.
