Angeline Arrington Coppedge
August 24, 1932 - March 6, 2026
Angie Coppedge gave up her battle against Parkinson's and left us on March 6, 2026. Angie was born on August 24,1932 on the old Morgan farm in Putnam County, W.V. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Margaret Arrington; her sister, Mary Britton; her husband, Dr. William Coppedge; and her oldest grandson, Jon Gurley. She grew up in Saint Albans W.V., graduating from St. Albans High School, where she enjoyed being a majorette for the band. After graduating, she attended St. Francis School of Nursing where she became certified as a registered nurse. She was extremely proud of this. She then decided to specialize as a nurse anesthetist and attended school at Charleston Memorial Hospital. While working there she met Bill Coppedge, an intern and the man she had been looking for. They married and moved to Farmville, Va., where he opened practice as a general practitioner. It was here that they raised their two daughters.
Upon moving to Virginia, Angie was very active in the community. She was a founder of the Southside Community Theatre, brought a Girl Scout troop to Farmville for her girls, formed a garden club and a bridge group and was the Majorette Sponsor at the high school for a number of years. She had a great love of art and classical music and was a docent at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts for over 20 years. She inherited her mother's love of quilting and made many beautiful quilts. She was a lifelong Republican, a member of the Farmville Presbyterian Church and a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy.
After her daughters were grown, Angie decided to attend college to obtain her degree. When she was in her 50's, she graduated with a degree in history from Longwood College, where she also played on the women's tennis team. She returned later to coach the women's team at Longwood. She loved tennis and played in multiple tournaments well into her 70's. She also taught many young people the sport and said one of her greatest joys was teaching someone the game. She also took up golf and bridge, always learning something new. She loved all sports and a sports channel was constantly on her television, even in her last days. She had a passionate love of animals, especially her dogs and could not stand to see any of them mistreated.
Angie is survived by her daughters, Emily Gurley (Tom), Lis Corrigan (Kevin); and her grandchildren, Chris Gurley (Larissa), Joey Gurley, Will Corrigan (Julie), Sidney Corrigan (Sophie), Talle Corrigan; and one great-granddaughter, Soleil Corrigan. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, many cousins and friends. We would like to thank the workers at Brookview Assisted Living for their love and care during this period.
