Angeline Steichen Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 2, 2026.
Angeline Steichen, age 92, of Ulen, MN, died on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Heather's House Hospice care facility, Fargo, ND.

Angeline Clarissa was born on November 5, 1933, to Lars and Clara (Romslo) Peterson in Audubon, MN. She was the youngest in her family with two older siblings, Paul and Alice. Angie's fond memories of her childhood were playing checkers and card games, such as Flinch, playing baseball, and skiing and tubing down the hill with her siblings. She remembers listening to "The Lone Ranger" on the radio and getting excited when hearing the galloping sounds of the horses.

When Angie was a child, she attended a country school called District 78, south of Audubon. When she was nine years old, she moved into town with her family and later attended school in Audubon. Some of Angie's best school memories were the school carnivals, class plays, and watching the boys' basketball games. Her favorite subjects in school were math (the more challenging and the longer the story problem, the better) and English (she loved to read and write). She was also a member of the Pep Club and co-editor of the school newspaper. Angie's first job was babysitting for $1.00 per day and she also worked at the grocery store in Audubon for $.50 per hour.

Angie graduated as Salutatorian of her senior class from Audubon High School with a class of 14 students. After high school, she attended Moorhead State Teacher's College for four years and received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. During college she worked at the first Hornbacher's store in Moorhead and was a waitress at the Gopher Grill in Detroit Lakes, MN. After college, Angie taught third and fourth grade at the Ulen and Barnesville schools. Later in life, she was a substitute teacher for the Ulen-Hitterdal School District and also became a home health caregiver for many years. She really valued education and loved her years as a teacher. She often talked about her students and would really enjoy visiting with them as the years passed. Angie had a passion for working with kids and was a 4-H leader for the Walworth Willing Workers Club for several years assisting with various community projects. She had the creativity and imagination for writing 4-H skits for plays that were performed at talent shows, as well as for the Parent's Appreciation night at the Flom Community Hall.

Angie was united in marriage to Dan Steichen on June 1, 1958, and they made their home near Ulen on a farm. She became a stay-at-home mom while raising six children and kept busy with the household and all parts of farm life. Angie enjoyed traveling, music, and being involved with her children's school and church activities.

Angie had a strong faith and was active with the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Ladies' Aid, Circle, the food bank, quilting, served on many committees, was a Sunday School teacher, and also served as a custodian for the church for several years. She loved being a member at Bethlehem and cherished her church family. Due to her unwavering faith, she took great comfort in knowing she would soon be to her eternal home and greeted by those she had dearly missed.

Angie had a huge, giving heart and would do anything for anyone. She loved to visit and tell stories of the past and was able to recall, in great detail, names and dates. She always looked forward to going to the Ulen Senior Center visiting with friends over a cup of coffee and food or working on puzzles. Angie moved to the Hawley Living Center in February 2025, where she made her home until her passing.

Angie's hobbies included reading, sewing, embroidery, gardening, crossword puzzles, and volunteering at the library link. She had many talents, including her love of cooking and baking food for everyone. Angie was known for her delicious rommegrot, rosettes, donuts, krumkake, lefsa, banana bread chocolate chip muffins, and chocolate rock cookies.

Angie adored and cherished her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed attending their extracurricular school activities, music programs and sports, she wouldn't miss a game! Angie was always excited to play cards and board games, take trips to the lakes, go fishing, and to take walks through the park with her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all those she touched.

Angie is survived by sons: John (Victoria) Steichen of Volcan, Panama, Kenneth Steichen of Ulen, and Perry Steichen of Connecticut; daughters: Lori (Kent) Eken of Audubon and Lynette (Dale) Juve of Grand Forks, ND; son-in-law, Joe Cossette of Moorhead, MN; ten grandchildren: Lindsey (DJ) Rice, Tyler ( Brittany) Steichen, Mitch (Hannah) Steichen, Jocelyn (Chad) Frazee, Kara (Nate) Peroni, Samuel (Lexie) Eken, Amber (Jayden) Eken, Adam Eken, Taylor (Maddy) Juve, and Trevor Juve; seven great-grandchildren: Brody, Vincent, Isaac, Autumn, Isabelle, Oliver, and Liam; sister-in-law, Annette Steichen of Shoreview, MN; many beloved nieces and nephews; and special friends, Sharon Geist and Carol Airehart.

Angie was preceded in death by her parents; former husband; infant son, Rodney Steichen; daughter, Barbara Cossette; brother, Paul Peterson; sister, Alice Steichen; nephew, Alan Steichen; and many beloved brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 11:00am, with a visitation one hour prior, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ulen. Inurnment will be held at West Bethlehem Cemetery, Ulen, in the spring.
