Angus McKenzie Laird

Angus McKenzie Laird, St: was born in West Bay; Florida on
August 8, 1925 to John M. Laird and Ossie Bush Laird. He was
the eighth of 10 children. He migrated to Chicago at the age of 15.
Angus married Mildred June Gant on April 134, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois. He
moved his family to Maywood in 1.959.
In 1966 Angus opened and operated a barbershop where he gave young men,
newly released from prison, a chance to re-enter the workforce by working in
his barbershop. He also, offered an opportunity for cosmetology graduates to
develop their acquired skills by working in his beauty salon. Angus later opened
a beauty supply shop that expanded to two other locations.
Even though Angus was busy with his business ventures, he always made time
to serve the Lord. Angus accepted the Lord at an early age. In the early 1960s
Angus became a member of the Second Baptist Church, where he served on the
Deacon Board, as a Trustee, a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the Sanctuary
Choir; and a member of other various committees and auriliaries.
Angus departed this life on Wednesday, September 28 th, 2022, at the age of
97 after a long, blessed life. His wife, of 72 years Mildred June Laird, preceded
him in death.
Angus leaves to cherish his memory; 4 children Angus M. Laird, Jr. (Myra),
Dennis J. Laird (Debra), Denise J. Catchings (Robert), and Valarie D. Laird,
13 grand children, 37 great-grand children, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
