Anita Hughes Brown, 66, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Saturday, December 7, 2024, at her residence.
Memorial services will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with Pastor Larry Davis and the Rev. Terry Cole officiating. Interment will be private. The family will greet friends at 133 Selma Way on Tuesday evening from 5-7 PM as well as one hour prior to the services at the funeral home on Wednesday.
Mrs. Brown was born November 24, 1958, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late John Newton Hughes, Sr. and the late Shirley Pike Howard. She was a 1976 graduate of Fitzgerald High School where she sang in the chorus and trio. She worked as secretary and receptionist for Drs. Roberts, Hammond & Jones for many years and also worked in the office for Blue-Gray Community Hospice. Mrs. Brown was a devoted wife and mother who lovingly raised her girls. She was a member of the Fitzgerald Church of God where she sang in and formerly directed the choir. She was a gifted and talented musician and enjoyed sharing her love of music with others.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, William E. "Billy" Brown, Jr. of Fitzgerald; daughters: Stephanie Brown-Tucker of Douglas, Jodi & Rodney Paul of Fitzgerald, and Amy Brown of Ocilla; grandchildren: Dalton Paul, Elisha Tucker, John Michael Owens, Judd Owens, Amelia Owens, and Paris Paul; and a sister, Johnnie Sue Wright of Ocilla. Several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Newton Hughes, Jr.; two sisters: Barbara Hughes and Sylvia Jones; and a great-nephew, William "Will" Dowdy, Jr.
Paulk Funeral Home, Fitzgerald, is in charge of arrangements.
