READFIELD- Anita Helen Buss, 57, of Readfield, Maine, and most recently residing in South Paris, Maine, passed away on November 23rd after a very sudden and aggressive cancer that took her from us far too soon. She was born on March 4, 1968, in Flushing Meadows, New York, to Imants (Manny) Buss and Iris Kolb Buss. In her early years, Anita and her family lived in Kings Park, Long Island, New York, before moving to Maine in 1978.
Anita grew up in Readfield and attended Maranacook Community School. During her high school years, she excelled as the goalie on the Field Hockey Team and was a standout athlete in track and field, setting numerous records in shot put, discus, and javelin, ultimately qualifying for the Junior Olympics.
One of her proudest accomplishments was serving as a Navy Seabee, stationed in Oahu, Hawaii. Anita was deeply patriotic-she considered herself a constitutionalist and "bled red, white, and blue."
After her military service, Anita attended ECPI College of Technology, earning an Associate of Applied Science in Computer Electronics Technology with a minor in Biomedical Electronics Technology. She later became certified in Servicing Diagnostic Imaging Systems – Level 1. Anita went on to live in Worcester, Massachusetts, where she worked in Biomedical Electronics Technology, repairing medical equipment. One highlight of her career was being called into the middle of an active surgery to repair critical equipment-an experience she carried with great pride.
In later years, Anita participated in the Veterans Golden Age Games, where she won numerous medals in shot put, discus, and javelin, returning to the athletic passions she had loved since her youth. Anita had a deep love for Standard Poodles and rescued many over the years. She held a special place in her heart for her beloved poodles Nina Simone, Simon, and Theodore. She also cherished fishing on Torsey Shores, barbecuing over an open fire pit, and cheering on NASCAR-she truly had racing in her veins.
She was predeceased by her mother, Iris Kolb Buss. She is survived by her father, Imants (Manny) Buss, and stepmother Livija of Latvia; her sister Yvonne Myer and husband Wesley of Windham, Maine; her son Aaron (AJ) Wyatt; her grandson Matthew Wyatt and his mother Anjel Swearingen; her nieces Darcy Wilkins and fiancé Jared Anthony and their son Austin Lee Anthony of Lisbon, Maine; and her niece Sabrina Wilkins and partner Ryan Ames of Poland, Maine.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to her dear friend Dorothy Ryan of Winthrop, who stayed faithfully by Anita's side around the clock until the very end. They also wish to thank the compassionate nurses and caregivers at Andwell Hospice Care, with special gratitude to Nurse Amanda, whose kindness helped Anita and her family feel truly cared for and loved.
Anita's visitation will be held on Saturday, November 29th from 11-2pm, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin Street, Winthrop. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
