Anita M. Parris, 89, of Dubuque, IA passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025 at SunnyCrest Manor.
Family and friends may gather from 10:00 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at Leonard Funeral Home and Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd. Dubuque where a funeral service will be held at noon. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Anita was born in OtterCreek, IA on December 30, 1935 the daughter of Thomas and Loretta (Anglin) Ryan. She married Allen Parris on October 13, 1978. He preceded her in death on February 1, 2004.
Anita worked in the laundry department for Mercy Medical Center for 42 years. She loved her crossword puzzles and loved spending time with her family and friends. Anita cherished her grandchildren and great grandchild; she will be deeply missed by many.
Anita is survived by her daughter, Molly (Sonny) Thornton; grandchildren, Courtney and Devin Griswold, McKynlee Thornton and Ella Riesing and a great grandchild, Kane Griswold.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Allen; brothers, Bill and Loras Ryan; and sisters, Donna Slattery-Johnston and Mardell Mayberry.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for Anita.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center, University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, SunnyCrest Manor and Hospice of Dubuque for the wonderful care that was provided to Anita.
