Anita Perez Hinojosa, an adored mother, grandmother and great-grandmother departed this life peacefully, surrounded by family in the comfort of her home, on November 17, 2024. Anita’s unwavering love for family was the foundation of her character. She was a devoted wife of 49 years to Baldomero Hinojosa whom she married, at the age of 17, upon his return from World War II.
Anita enjoyed their outings alongside her brothers, sisters, and their significant others. She always enjoyed good music and a slow dance with the love of her life and war hero our ‘Welito’ Baldomero.
Her sisters were her closest confidants, with a bond that strengthened over time. Shopping and dining together would become their favorite past time and there was never a dull moment with these “Golden Girls.”
‘Welita’ Anita as she was affectionately referred to, was a full-time homemaker and dedicated her life to nurturing a warm and welcoming environment for her children and extended loved ones. Together, Welito and Welita would raise their six children with decades of love and support which would bring them years of fond memories and a growing family of 21 grandchildren and over 35 great-grandchildren.
As the cherished matriarch of the family, she valued every moment they spent together and made it a point to attend all paramount gatherings. She especially looked forward to embracing the Spirit of Christmas and Easter Sunday. Her traditional handmade Mexican dishes were always accompanied with love and laughter as Welita “cocinaba con amor.”
Sunday breakfast, after church, was always a treasured ritual where the family would come together, in Welitas kitchen, ensuring no one ever left hungry. Welita Anita had a remarkable gift of always making everyone feel special and always asking, “Que Si Ya Comiste?”
Known for her wit and fearless spirit, Welita was a reliable counselor and a trusted guide to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She always had words of wisdom for anyone in need of encouragement or cheer. Welita was profoundly spiritual and a devout parishioner of San Martin De Porres Church in Weslaco, Texas. She also had an unwavering faith in her lighting of candles at St. Jude Catholic Church in Pharr, Texas where she would pray for her family and loved ones. Welita Anita made sure to send you off with a blessing and a “Dios Te Bendiga.”
Though our hearts are heavy with grief, our family takes solace and feel blessed with the profound impact she made on all our lives. Her unwavering love, strength, and warmth will undoubtedly continue to console the family and future generations to come. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love of all her family and those who were fortunate to know her.
Anita is preceded in death by her husband, Baldomero Hinojosa; her parents, Blas and Ignacia (Trevino) Perez; her daughter, Sylvia Carlin; siblings, Dalia Alaniz (Andres), Romanita Cavazos (Juan), Tina De la Cruz (Tanilo), Hector Perez (Lupita), and Humberto Perez, and her grandchildren, Jessica Gonzalez, and Thomas Rodriguez.
She is survived by her children, Rosalinda Gonzalez (Luis+), Roel Hinojosa (Elsa), Cynthia Hinojosa Cazares, Thelma Rodriguez (Robert+), and Ricardo “Rick” Hinojosa (Rosa), her son-in-law, Carlos Carlin, her siblings, Balde Perez (Vicky+), Julio Perez (Lupita), Oralia Reyna (Macario+), sister-in-law, Sylvia Perez, 19 grandchildren, over 35 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
