Anita Scherfel

Anita Scherfel (Rossi), age 100, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, at the United Methodist Community in Pitman, NJ, where she had lived for the past two years. Anita was raised in Westville, NJ, and lived there until moving to Wildwood in 1978.

Anita's greatest joy was being a devoted homemaker and mother all her life. She was a former member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Westville and St. Ann Catholic Church in Wildwood.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Scherfel; her grandson, Ryne Sigmund; and her siblings, Rose Coniglio, Pat Rossi, Jean Cahill, and Elaine Bruce.

Anita is survived by her children, Stephen Scherfel and Debra (Warren) Sigmund; her grandchildren, Luke Scherfel, Dolan Scherfel, and Lauren Sigmund McNulty (Brian); Chad Heitzmann (Brooke), her great-grandchildren, Evalyn, Benjamin, and Danny; as well as her siblings, Carmen Rossi (the late Connie), Joseph Rossi (the late Priscilla), Gloria Mariano (the late Bill), Diane Nickerson (Dan), and brother-in-law John Bruce.

Friends may greet the family on Thursday, August 14, 2025, from 10 AM to 11 AM at Budd Funeral Home, 522 Salem Avenue, Woodbury, NJ. A graveside service will follow at 11:30 AM in New St. Mary's Cemetery, Bellmawr. Anita loved all animals; in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Animal Orphanage of Voorhees, P.O. Box 1363, 419 Cooper Road, Voorhees, New Jersey, or to any animal shelter of the donor's choice.
