Maurice "Mike" J. McDermott Jr. of Bellmawr, NJ. Febuary 24, 1935 - September 7, 2025.

It is with very deep sadness the we announce the passing of Maurice J. McDermott Jr., on Sunday September 7, 2025.

Born in Mt. Ephraim, NJ to the late Florence and Maurice McDermott Sr., "Mike" worked for the family construction business known as McCook and McDermott Builders.

He would later move on to spend many years working in train car fabrication at the Budd Company in Philadelphia. In the early 2000's he would be called back from retirement to join the testing team at Bombardier Transportation to fulfill an order of 1,030 new subway cars for the city of New York before permanently retiring in 2004.

In his retirement he kept busy with a small business he had formed with his son John McDermott that manufactured life size figurines and cartoon caricatures for miniature golf courses and amusement parks throughout the region.

He enjoyed boating, fishing, and the outdoors. Not to leave out cooking up a few Omaha Steaks. He was also an aficionado of guns and skeet shooting and could often be found at the South Jersey Shooting Club. He also enjoyed family and spending time with his sons and grand children.

Maurice is predeceased by his son John McDermott, sisters Florence McDermott, Dorothy Murray, Veronica McCook, and Grace Powell.

He is survived by his eldest son Maurice McDermott III and sister Maureen Brown of Pembroke Georgia, as well as grand children Kayla McDermott, Trinity Dorsey, and Allison Hamann, in addition to great grand children, and many nieces and nephews.
