Anita Rita (Daoust) Wojnarowicz, 100, passed peacefully in her sleep on All Saints’ Day. She lived in Sutton, where she recently received the Boston Cane as the oldest citizen in town. Anita was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Meleda (Preville) Daoust and all of her siblings – Loretta Champlin, Ora Thibedeau, Eveyln Wahlstad, Edward Daoust, Yvette Ricard and Jean Chesna.

Anita was predeceased by her husband Joseph Wojnarowicz Sr. Together, they raised five children - Joseph Wojnarowicz, husband to Andrea; the late Roger Wojnarowicz; Joyce, wife to Bill Parker; Donna, wife of the late John Raposo with whom she resided; and Glenn Wojnarowicz, husband to Jackie. She leaves behind 11 grandchildren, dozens of great & great, great grandchildren, nieces & nephews. She adored them all!

Anita was born in Worcester and attended city schools until the 8th grade. She worked at Reed and Prince screw factory in Worcester to assist in the war effort. She married Joseph Wojnarowicz, a Navy gunner, as America was fully engaged in World War II in 1943. They were part of the “Greatest Generation”. She was a stay-at-home mom until her children were grown. She was the first cafeteria worker at Granite Street School to introduce hot lunches back in the 1970’s. She loved working with the students & staff, and made lifelong friends. She was the last founding member of the Breakfast Club. Later in life, she enjoyed the company of her nieces on Tuesday mornings for robust games of Rummikub and conversation. Tuesdays were her favorite day, but Wednesdays were a close second. Anita loved the television show, “Survivor” and looked forward Wednesday evenings.

Anita prayed the Rosary daily and enjoyed the best fish and chips during lent from St. Mark’s Church. Put a baby or a puppy in her arms and she was happy. Through the years, Anita had a simple but hard life, and she hardly complained. She was full of grace and showed everyone around her kindness.

The family would like to thank the angels at Notre Dame Hospice, specifically Micheline and Kate, who brought love, laughter, amazing care and comfort to Anita in her remaining days.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Notre Dame Health Care c/o Development Office at 555 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA 01605.

Family and friends will remember and celebrate Anita’s life by gathering for her Funeral Mass on Thursday, Dec. 11th at 11 a.m. in St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 356 Boston Road in Sutton with burial to follow in W.C.M.P, Paxton.
