WORCESTER – Paul J. Berthiaume, 83, passed away peacefully at UMASS Memorial on November 8, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a devoted brother, uncle, and friend. Paul will be remembered for his unwavering kindness, generosity of spirit, and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Born on August 11, 1942, in Worcester, Paul was the beloved son of the late Joseph Peter Berthiaume and late Loretta Delia Ingalls. He grew up alongside his brother, Gerard Berthiaume, with whom he shared a lifetime of closeness and fond memories. Together they spent countless hours admiring classic cars and reminiscing about their childhood in their cherished hometown.
Paul is survived by his brother Gerard Berthiaume of Dudley, MA, his nephew Joseph Berthiaume and his wife Stacey of Dudley, MA, his great nephews; Steven Duhamel-Berthiaume of Dudley, MA, Nicholas Berthiaume of Dudley, MA, Timothy Berthiaume of Ocala, FL, and great niece Lindsey Berthiaume of Ashford, CT. and his ex-wife Lorna Arnold of Millbury, MA.
Paul was predeceased by his nephew Kristopher Berthiaume of Auburn, MA.
Paul proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he was honorably discharged after his period of service. His time in the military instilled in him a deep sense of discipline, responsibility, and pride that carried through to every part of his life.
After returning home, he began a long and dedicated career with Shaw’s Supermarket, where he worked as a supervisor for over 40yrs. His work ethic, fairness, and quiet leadership earned him respect from colleagues and customers alike. Those who knew Paul often spoke of his selflessness and big heart. He had a remarkable ability to make those around him feel valued and cared for. Whether it was helping a neighbor, offering guidance to a friend, or lending support to a family member during difficult times. Paul’s compassion knew no bounds. He found joy in giving more than receiving, a quality that defined his character throughout his life.
Beyond his work and acts of service, Paul enjoyed a life of simple pleasures and meaningful connections. He loved to travel – Maine, Florida, and cruise vacations were among his favorite adventures, and he especially cherished those trips spent with his great-nephews and niece. His love for his family was immeasurable, and the memories created on those family vacations will be treasured by them always.
Paul’s faith was an important part of his life. A lifelong Catholic, he attended church regularly in his younger years and later carried his faith through quiet acts of charity and kindness. Though he may have spent less time in church walls, he embodied its spirit every day through his compassion and service to others.
At home, Paul found companionship and contentment in caring for his cats, who brought him comfort and laughter. He also enjoyed exploring his shared passion for vintage automobiles with his brother Gerard, often spending weekends with Gerard.
Family and friends will honor and remember Paul’s life by gathering for a time of visitation on Thursday, Nov. 20th from 5 to 7 p.m. with his funeral service to follow at 7 p.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street, Millbury.
