ANN FEWIN
Ann Hauser Fewin left behind her earthly shackles and went home to her Savior on September 30. She was 91. Born to Everett and Bess Hauser in 1933, Ann grew up in Cunningham, Kansas, where she graduated from Cunningham High School in 1951. She earned a bachelor's degree in education from Wichita State University in 1955, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority, and began a teaching career, first in kindergarten and then in 1st grade.
After a four-year courtship, Ann married her beloved Hugh Fewin in 1958, and together they raised two sons and a daughter. Over the next 30 years, Ann and Hugh would move their family more than 25 times, crisscrossing the country to cities that included Chicago, Lubbock, Salt Lake City, Houston, and Greenville, Pennsylvania, as they followed new career opportunities for Hugh. Despite her extensive travels across the U.S. and abroad, Ann never lost her deep love for her cherished Cunningham farming community. After Hugh's passing in August 1989, Ann returned to Cunningham, where she made her home once again in her childhood house next to the school. Never content to remain on the sidelines, she was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and an active participant in the Cunningham community and her church, where she continued her tradition as a church pianist.
Having once entertained dreams of becoming a concert pianist, Ann shared her musical talent as a piano teacher for generations of young musicians, and also as a church pianist, rarely missing a Sunday on the bench in whatever city she lived. She loved tending to her "English garden," especially her lifelong favorite flowerthe pink rose. She was an avid reader and lifelong learner who will be remembered for her warm smile and positive spirit, her wry humor, her dedication to family, and her unwavering faith in God.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Ann is survived by her sons Mark (Maria) and Scott (Michaela) Fewin, and daughter Melanie Hilton (Jimmie), grandchildren Greyson, Brennen, Tyler and Connor Fewin, Sarah Hilton Koutsogiannis (Petros), and Cody (Katie) and Grace Hilton, and great-grandchildren Elena and Periklis Koutsogiannis.
A celebration of Ann's life will be held at 11 a.m. on October 18 at the Cunningham Christian Church in Cunningham, Kansas. There will be a Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. October 17 at Larrison Mortuary in Pratt, Kansas.
