Ann Bassford Gaskin, 64, of Valdosta, passed away unexpectedly from health issues June 19, 2024, at her residence. Born in Valdosta to JoAnn Daniel Bassford and the late William O. Bassford, she grew up here and attended Valdosta City Schools. Graduating from Valdosta High School in 1978, she enjoyed being a member of the Marching Cats, participating in the Flag Corps. She went on to attend and graduate from Georgia Southern University, pledging Phi Mu sorority while there. Ann returned to Valdosta to become a school teacher, teaching at Valdosta Junior High School and Pinevale for several years. She then moved to the Atlanta area and Macon before settling in the Warner Robins area for several years. She moved back to Valdosta in 2014, working at the Haven before starting work at Elead CRM, where she has worked for several years. Ann was a devoted animal lover. She considered her cats and dogs to be her children. Ann grew up in the Methodist Church, but most recently attended St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

Survivors include her daughter and son in law, Madeline & John Johnson of Warner Robins, her mother, JoAnn Daniel Bassford of Valdosta; her brother and sister in law, Bill, Jr. & Renee Bassford of Lake Park, three nieces and nephews, Trey Bassford III (& Rachel), Megan Bassford and Logan Bassford, all of Valdosta; a great niece and nephews, Saylor, Drake and Devin. Also surviving are several cousins, Bud & Joy Bassford, David & Kim Bassford, Lynn Mims, Beverly Purdy and John Sims Bassford, and other cousins and relatives. She is preceded in death by her father William O. “Bill” Bassford, Sr. 

A graveside service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Rev. Anthony McPhail will officiate. Donations may be made to the Humane Society of Valdosta/Lowndes County at www.humanesocietyofvaldsota.org.
