Genewicz, Ann Marie (Spera) – Ann Genewicz passed peacefully into God's loving arms on Thursday, May 15, 2025. Born in East Cambridge on April 13, 1936 to her parents, Anthony and Alice (Reale) Spera, Ann lived a vibrant life filled with faith, generosity, resilience, and love.
Ann met her loving husband, John, while growing up in East Cambridge, and they cherished 44 years of marriage together. Some of Ann's happiest memories were of their many adventures around the country as they lived between California, North Carolina, Texas, and New Hampshire while John served in the U.S. Air Force and they built their family.
After settling back in Massachusetts, Ann was a dedicated mother who was singularly focused on raising her three children. She devoted much of her time to volunteering at St. Raphael's Parish and School, where she, John, and a few other couples established the first bingo night at the parish and hosted many fundraising events, including wine tasting parties in the backyard.
Ann spent almost 40 years working as a front desk administrator at a dental practice in Winchester and Lexington. She excelled at her job and truly loved working with patients, all of whose life stories she knew. She always greeted everyone with a cheerful smile and made them feel welcome and comfortable at their visits. Ann relished her relationships with her colleagues, who thought of her as a second mother, and who she thought of as family.
A longtime member of St. Eulalia's Parish in Winchester, Ann was a woman of devout faith who always placed her trust in God and had a special devotion to St. Padre Pio. In her free time, Ann was an avid golfer. She and John belonged to Oakley Country Club in Belmont for many years, where she and her "Oakley Ladies" hosted several themed tournaments, which were always a hit. Her "Oakley Ladies" were not only golf buddies, but also bowling league and investment club friends, who still remained dear to her after all these years.
Ann enjoyed traveling with her family and friends, including many wonderful trips to Cape Cod, Florida, and the Bahamas. More than anything, Ann treasured spending time with her family, especially being "Nonie" to 9 grandsons and many great-grandchildren. She never forgot a birthday, enjoyed sharing her passions for golf and Jeopardy! with her grandsons, and immersed herself in learning about their interests, too. She was always happily present at every major event she could be for her grandchildren and doted on them constantly – but her greatest gifts of all were her generous heart itself and the love she had for her family. Ann is survived by her daughters Anne Delaney and Lisa Bowers (Matthew), as well as her grandsons Douglas Delaney; Troy Delaney; John Ross Delaney; Brett Delaney; Curtt Delaney; Joshua Genewicz; Matthew Bowers; Mark Bowers; and Christopher Bowers, as well as their wives and partners. Ann is also survived by several great-grandchildren. Ann was predeceased by her husband, John; her son, Michael; and her brother, Francis Spera, and sister-in-law, Jeanette Spera. She missed them all greatly.
Ann's family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff and caregivers at The Commons Skilled Nursing Facility in Lincoln who were so very good to her during her time there, treating her with kindness and compassion these past few weeks. We would also like to extend deep appreciation to the Lahey Hospital emergency room doctors and nurses and the nursing staff on 7 West who treated Ann with care, dignity, and respect, keeping her comfortable through her last hours. We are extremely grateful to all of them.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit in the DeVito Funeral Home, 1145 Mass. Ave., ARLINGTON on Wednesday from 10:00 - 11:30 am and to her funeral mass at 12:00 pm at St. Eulalia Church. It is with a heavy heart that I received the news of Ann's passing. As my family and I are out of state visiting relatives, I felt disconnected and sad that I would be unable to attend her services. I have so many memories of Ann. At work in the dental office we shared or more personally, gatherings at the now to infrequent lunches and visits. She was always a good friend and somewhat of a mother figure to me. We would have much fun talking about our work and families. She was never without an opinion on a subject but also always with a smile/laugh to make me feel better. Ann and I worked together for many years at the Lexington office beginning in the mid 1990's from then we developed a friendship lasting until the present. Ann and I would text/have phone conversation and arrange lunch get-togethers outside of work when I left work to care for my aging mother. She would always a kind word and good advice whether it be about personal issues or the stock market. I will miss our visits and talks. She was a unique and caring individual who always made me and others feel better for having spent time with her.

Rest in peace Ann,

Pamela Edmonston and her family
