Doris Ann Gilmore, "Grannie Annie", passed away on Sunday, January 12th at Aspire Senior Living in Platte City, Missouri. She was born September 3rd, 1933, in Medicine Lodge, Kansas where she became the Valedictorian of her high school graduating class. Ann married Frederick Greco but was soon widowed while she was expecting their second child. Ann later married Gaylord Gant and together they had two more children. They raised their family of six mainly in the Medicine Lodge area and were then later divorced.
Over the years, Ann held a variety of jobs outside of the home including helping to manage a tavern as well as secretarial positions in a law practice and in a doctor's office. She loved playing cards or dominoes and even taught Bridge for a few years. At family gatherings, Ann would gladly play a game of Cribbage with any takers and she taught several of her grandchildren to play. Ann was also highly skilled at "hand work". Many family and friends have items which she had sewn, knitted, or crocheted. Ann was known to be lively - even rather feisty. A nursing home staff member summed things up well saying, "She was a hoot!"
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Faye Gilmore of Medicine Lodge, her sister, Chrystine Hosey of Emporia, Kansas, and both of her husbands. Ann is survived by her four children: Chrystine (Brian) Hettrick of Kansas City, Matthew (Pam) Greco of Seattle, Joseph (Rebecca) Gant of Illinois, and Gaye (Ken) Nuckles of Wisconsin. Ann's legacy also includes ten grandchildren: Harmon, Erin, Dinesha, Gil, Gabe, Gracie, Eliza, Gabriella, Leigh Ann and Jeff, as well as eleven great-grandchildren: Isaiah, Jeremiah, Selah, Moriah, Elijah, Zepporah, Wendell, Linford, Ewan, Teddy, and Eve.
A memorial service is being planned for the morning of Monday, February 17th at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Community Church in Kansas City, Missouri. (4214 NW Cookingham Dr. / KC,MO / 64164)

Dear family, So sorry to hear about the passing of your mom, Ann. The last time we talk , it was about her small house she was in in Medicine Lodge and we talk about what was going on with Chris and Matt. She had her famous smile when she talked about you all. I went by her house later and she had move. I didn't know where she moved to, I was sorry about that. I am glad she had moved close to Chris.
In high school, Eva and I always knew we had a home away from home at Ann's house. She wasn't Ann to us, she was "mom" . She told us that we were children. She had the best hug, it was so nice to get one from her. One New Years eve a group of high schoolers had a no drink party at her house. She wanted us to have fun and where she knew we would be safe. We played many games but the ones that I remember the most was pitch cards games . She loved playing cards. It wasn't a boring card game, it was done with a lot laughing. I will miss mom, rest in peace and I hope you find someone to play cards with up in heaven.
