Memorial service for Ann Johnston, age 88 of Sulphur Springs, Texas will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home with Dr. Louis Blom officiating. There will be no formal visitation. Mrs. Johnston passed away on November 22, 2024 at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, Texas.

Audree Ann (Curtis) Johnston, beloved wife of Cyril Lamar Johnston, peacefully entered Heaven on November 22, 2024. Born in Fort Worth, Texas, on January 12, 1936 to the late Aubrey Bowie and Thelma Ree Curtis, Ann grew up in Memphis, Tennessee where she met and married Cyril, the love of her life, in 1953. Ann and Cyril spent their early years of marriage raising four children near Louisville, Kentucky, where she was very involved with the Anchorage Children’s Theatre and Anchorage Presbyterian Church.

In addition to being an amazing fulltime mother, Ann found time to pursue a lifelong love of antiquing, through which she formed many lasting friendships. After she and Cyril relocated to Dallas in 1976, she owned and operated The Wooden Gate on North Henderson Avenue for over 20 years.

Ann’s life was a tapestry of color, warmth, smiles, laughter, and unwavering support for those she cherished. She was known for her ability to make everyone feel seen, loved, and heard. With her white hair and rosy cheeks, “Kaki”, as she was affectionately named by her grandchildren, was easily and often mistaken for Mrs. Santa Claus. She was the family authority on all things culinary. She loved preparing holiday meals and after her children were grown, coaching them via telephone when not in person.

Ann was a devoted grandmother and great grandmother. She cherished celebrating every moment of their lives, from the everyday joys to countless games and weddings. She welcomed every addition to the family with total acceptance, as if they were one of her own.

Ann’s legacy is carried on by her devoted husband, Cyril; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Becky Curtis; sister-in-law, Josephine Johnston Cartwright; children and their spouses, Rita and Jeff Johnston, Syndi and Terry Bell, Leslie and Mark Winter, and Kyndall and Matt Johnston; thirteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and four nieces and nephews.

We were so lucky to be loved by her. While we are heartbroken her journey here on Earth has ended, we rejoice knowing she is healthy, healed and reunited with her Savior.
