New Comer Cremations & Funerals - Westside LocationAnn Marie Lander, 78, of Rochester, New York, passed away on February 5, 2026, at Rochester General Hospital, from complications following an acute illness. A devoted mother, loyal friend, and compassionate soul, Ann will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and tireless commitment to helping others.
Born on January 2, 1948, in Waverly, New York, Ann was the daughter of Clinton “Bud” Ashcraft and Mary (Jerman) Ashcraft and grew up in Houghton, NY. She graduated from Fillmore Central School in 1966 and went on to attend Olean Business Institute. Later, driven by her desire to serve others, she earned her Associate’s Degree in Medical Assisting from Alfred State College.
In 1968, Ann married Gary Lander, with whom she shared two daughters, Christina and Laura. Though the couple later divorced, Ann and Gary maintained an enduring friendship grounded in mutual respect and love for their family until his passing in 2025. In later years, Ann shared many happy times with her beloved companion, Dusan Vujanovic, until his passing in 2024.
Ann’s professional life reflected her heart for service. She worked at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville, the American Red Cross, and, most recently, at CVS Pharmacy, both in Rochester, where she was known for her kindness and reliability. Before moving to Rochester, she also volunteered as an ombudsman for the elderly.
Ann’s passions filled her life with vibrancy and purpose. An animal lover, especially devoted to cats, she also took pleasure in simple joys—baking, sewing, and gathering with friends and family for socializing, often over card games. Ann was talented with her hands and heart, and many loved ones found comfort in her thoughtfully crafted quilts that embodied her affection and artistry. For years, Ann belonged to a close-knit circle of sewing enthusiasts who treasured their creative moments in their small community of mutual interest.
A dedicated Catholic, Ann’s faith was enriched by music—she participated wholeheartedly in music groups throughout her life, most notably as a beloved member of the sanctuary choir of St. Charles Borromeo Church. As a parishioner there, Ann found great joy in music and community.
Ann is survived by her daughters, Christina Lander and Laura Lander. She was preceded in death by her parents, her former husband, Gary Lander, and her partner, Dusan Vujanovic.
Funeral services will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, located at 3003 Dewey Ave., Rochester, NY 14616, on Saturday March 28th at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Charles Borromeo Church in her memory.
