Ann Mathis Obituary

Mrs. Ann Garrett Mathis, age 77, of Rome, Georgia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday morning, August 12, 2025 leaving behind a legacy enriched by laughter, adventure, and a zest for life.

Mrs. Mathis was born November 6, 1947, in Rome, Georgia, daughter of the late Fred L. Garrett, Jr. and Dora Atkinson Garrett. Ann went to work for Best Manufacturing in 1978 as the credit manager, where she remained until she retired in 2013. Her career was a testament to her hard work and commitment, traits that were admired by her colleagues and friends alike. Ann was more than her career; she embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. Known for her infectious laugh, she lived each day to the fullest, making those around her feel cherished and uplifted. Whether she was gliding across the dance floor, indulging in her love for various types of dance, or sharing a hearty laugh, Ann's vibrant spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.

Travel was another passion of Ann's, and she relished the experiences it brought her. She created beautiful memories through her travels, especially during family beach trips and bus tours with her friends. Her adventures took her far and wide, from the picturesque avenues of Italy to the vibrant streets of Japan, and included explorations across many states. Each journey broadened her horizons and enriched her life, all of which she shared fondly with her loved ones.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Ronnie L. Mathis; a grandson, Levi Blake Burnette; and brothers, Thomas "Tom" Franklin Garrett, and Buford Douglas Garrett.

She is survived by her loving children: Shan Burnette, and Cheryl Brazelton and her husband, Barry; grandchildren: Becca Brazelton (Colleen "Coll"), Cade Brazelton, Allie Brazelton, Macy Edwards (Greg), and Blake Burnette; and great grandchildren: Collins Edwards and Collier Edwards. Additionally, she is survived by siblings: Olivia Garrett Yuspa, Fred Van Garrett (Joyce), and Nancy Garrett Mackey (Rod), all of Rome, Georgia; sister-in-law, Melanie Garrett; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Graveside funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Ann Garrett Mathis will be held at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 2:30 PM with Mr. Jon Williams officiating.

Mrs. Mathis' family will receive friends on Thursday, August 14, 2025, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Salmon Funeral Home before processing to the cemetery for the Graveside Service.

It is with great sorrow to learn of Ann´s death. I met Ann through her sister, Olivia, around ten years ago. She was a joy to be with....full of life and laughter. My sincere condolences to Olivia and all of Ann´s family as they grieve her death and remember precious times together.
