Ann Parker was born February 2, 1957, in Warren, OH, the daughter of Armand K. Parker & Evelyn Brink Parker. After high school, Ann earned an associate degree in office administration and computers. She lived in Florida and West Virginia until making her home in Decatur County in 1987. Ann was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
Known to everyone as Mama, Nana, or Aunt, Ann never met a stranger who didn’t soon feel like family. Her life was beautifully centered around the people she loved most, her children and grandchildren. Ann found happiness in simple pleasures: tending her flowers, getting lost in a good book, soaking up the sun at the beach, and cooking enough food to feed a small army. Her kitchen was always open, her table always full. She kept a spotless home, often rearranging it just to make things “fresh”. Ann proudly held the title of “Yard Sale Queen”, always on the hunt for a good find and forever telling stories that began with “Guess what I found today…”
Survivors include her children, Micheal Mathis, Michael Ross, Brian Ross, and Cathy Helms; her fourteen grandchildren & thirteen great-grandchildren; her siblings, Kathleen Mooney (Martin), Dennis Parker, Jeff Parker, Donna Stevenson (Virgil), Debbie Smith, David Smith, and Lisa Smith; and a host of extended family. Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Vernon Mathis; her daughter, Regina Harris; her grandson, Jacob Mathis; her parents, Armand K. Parker and Evelyn B. Harper; and her siblings, Ron Parker and Elaine P. Spangler.
