Ann Perkins Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors - Clawson on Mar. 8, 2026.
Ann Corrine Hanson Perkins died peacefully in her Story Point apartment with her devoted husband of 74 years, Ralph Tyler (Ty) Perkins Jr., holding her hand with her three children present.

Her 94 years were filled with family, adventures and volunteerism. Ann was fun, funny, and feisty, with a fierce loyalty to family, friends and those less fortunate. She helped her husband as he built his business and she fully supported and encouraged her three children in all of their interests.

Affiliations and volunteerism included: Centenary Jr. College in New Jersey, The Martha Cook House at U of M, Christ Church Cranbrook, Nativity Church, St. James Episcopal Church, First Presbyterian Church of Birmingham, Pontiac State Hospital, Wing Lake School (for severely handicapped, Welcome Inn (for homeless), Lourdes Nursing Home, American Cancer Society, Pembroke Elementary School Library, Birmingham Village Players (since 1963), AAUW, Children's Theater, Birmingham Art Center and The Village Club & Foreign Exchange Student Program. Ann loved gardening, traveling, reading, crafting, following Olympic skating, bird and squirrel watching and working on jigsaw puzzles with family and friends.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Olive Hanson; brother, Richard; son-in-law, Ed Szczerba; and their daughter-in-law, Lois (Chipper) Perkins. She is survived by her devoted husband of 74 years, Ty, their three adult children Sandra, Ralph Tyler (Todd) Perkins III, and Dru Szczerba; four grandchildren Scott Quisling (Nicole), Meg Greene (Brandon), Kelly Emery (Thomas), and Max Perkins; and eight great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, April 11, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church of Birmingham, 1669 West Maple Road, Birmingham, 48009.
