Ann Benedict Smith, a cherished mother, counselor, and artist, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025 at the age of 77, after a long journey with Alzheimer's disease. Born on March 16, 1948 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she lived a life rich in creativity, compassion, and service to others, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.

Ann was a dedicated professional and fierce advocate for mental health, earning her Master's degree in Counseling and Art Therapy from Antioch University after completing her Bachelor's degree in Psychology at Swarthmore College. Her career as a counselor and art therapist allowed her to touch the lives of many, providing support and guidance with her warm and empathetic nature. She believed in the healing power of art and dedicated herself to helping others find their voice through creative expression.

A lifelong hippie, Ann embraced the ideals of peace, love, and social justice. Her vibrant spirit was reflected in her artwork, which often celebrated nature and the beauty of human connection. This art has been displayed professionally at multiple galleries. While the formal training she received studying painting at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts gave her the basic skill set, her raw talent was undeniable, coming together to create the signature impressionistic style seen in the majority of her paintings.

Ann was also an avid reader, always seeking knowledge and inspiration. She had an appreciation for literature and a natural curiosity, which connected her to other people and sparked many interesting, friendly debates.

In addition to her professional and artistic achievements, Ann was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church and loved singing in the choir. Her faith kept her grounded during tough times and gave her hope for the future.

Ann is survived by her daughter, Amy Wincek, and her two grandchildren, Donovan Wincek and Nadia Wincek.

A celebration of life service will take place at Christ the King Episcopal Church in Arvada, Colorado on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 11am.

She will be remembered for her kind and empathetic heart, her infectious laughter, and her commitment to spreading love and joy to the world. Her light will continue to shine in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
