Ann Sullivan Obituary

Ann Ebbert Sullivan of Ligonier and Vero Beach, FL, died on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026. She spent her last days as she had lived, happily surrounded by family and friends. She was born on Feb 3, 1941, in Pittsburgh, daughter of Elizabeth Coolidge Ebbert and James Kay Ebbert. After attending the Ellis School, she continued her education at The Masters School and Briarcliff College, where she studied cartography, and then earned her B.A. in political science at the University of Pittsburgh. In 1961, Ann married Charles A. Fagan III. With their three children, they lived in Washington, DC, and a diplomatic posting in 1972 took them to Brussels, Belgium, where Ann thrived. She organized and hosted the highest-level diplomatic dinners and functions in their apartment. Ann would simultaneously perform her hostess duties while also doing all of the cooking. Diplomats, dignitaries, and royalty were regular visitors. Moving back to the U.S., Ann's interests found many outlets: The Children's Institute of Pittsburgh, The Ligonier Valley Library, Fort Ligonier Association, The Masters School, and the Westmoreland Museum of American Art. She remained a creative cook and an avid tennis player. In 1992, she married Barry R. Sullivan. In addition to their shared interests in golf, nature, and wildlife, they traveled extensively around the world, including numerous academic Yale trips, and especially visits to Africa. Together they enjoyed their work with the Pittsburgh Public Theater and with the Institute of World Politics graduate school. Two of Ann's greatest gifts might be her legacy of friendship her easy ability to make, gather, and keep friends along with her mantra, "The Power of Positive Thinking" and "Do it with Thy Might," which she both promoted and embodied. Ann is survived by her husband, Barry; her sister, Carol Hackett; her three children, Lisa Fagan (Jim Wallace), Chas Fagan (Katie), and JK Fagan (Heidi); and her two stepchildren, Kate Scovil and Tim Sullivan (Wendy). Ann, "Gam re," will be affectionately remembered by all of her 16 grandchildren; and her four great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, 2026, in MCCABE FUNERAL HOME, 144 East Main St., Ligonier. A funeral service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026, at St. Michael's of the Valley Church. Private interment will be made in the St. Michael's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ann's name to one of these charities she supported for decades: The Children's Institute of Pittsburgh (amazingkids.org) and Fort Ligonier Association (fortligonier.org).
