Barbara Ann Johns

Barbara Ann Johns, PhD, aged 82, from McMurray, PA, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, from complications after a stroke. She was born in New York City to Dr. Henry and Julia Klinghoffer and settled in McKeesport after her father's untimely death. She graduated from McKeesport High School in 1961 and then achieved her BS from Penn State University in 1965. She earned a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Pittsburgh in 1969 and pioneered work in long-term intravenous nutrition. Her life's work and calling, however, was caring for her family, and she dedicated her life to her husband, children, and grandchildren. Barbara was married for 43 years to Dr. Martin Johns prior to his passing in 2021. A wonderful teacher, she instilled the value of education and encouraged her children and grandchildren to achieve great things in sports, dance, music, and acting. Barbara loved going to museums, zoos, and the symphony. She enjoyed crafting, crossword puzzles, and was an avid reader. She taught CCD for 3rd graders at St. Benedict the Abbot church for 20 years. Along with her husband, she is predeceased by her brothers Edward Klinghoffer and Randolph Hunt, and her son Matthew Johns. She is survived by her son Dr. Martin Johns II (Gretchen) of New Castle, PA and her daughter Julia Johns of McMurray along with her grandchildren Tripp, Shane, Ellie, Kiersten, Henry, and Evelyn Johns of New Castle, and Tyler and Mason Johns of Kittanning, PA along with many nieces and nephews. Arrangements by BEINHAUER. Family and friends received Tuesday from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM at 2828 Washington Road, McMurray PA 15317. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM at St. John XXIII Parish, St. Benedict the Abbot Church. Interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
