Ann Trierweiler, born January 4, 1949, passed away on December 8, 2025, surrounded by family who loved her fiercely and stayed close until the very end. She was born to Catherine and Richard Trierweiler in
Terre Haute, IN, where she grew up with her parents and three brothers.
Ann attended St. Benedict's School and later graduated from Schulte High School in 1967. She lived briefly in Virginia Beach and Los Angeles before returning home, eventually working nearly 30 years at Kroger. She built countless friendships there and was known for taking care of things and bringing plenty of laughter. Some of her closest friends came from her time at Kroger.
Ann was, without question, one of a kind. She had a feisty sense of humor and very strong opinions. She was a self-proclaimed crazy cat lady, loved traveling, and enjoyed being a foodie. She found joy in learning new recipes, especially the ones she and Aaron tried together. She was also a fierce defender of animals and supported charitable causes around the world. She rescued many cats who were left behind or had special needs. Her generous heart was known to many, including her ever-faithful mailman who delivered an endless stream of address labels from the organizations she supported.
She was the proud mom of three children: Coby (Debbie) Perelle, Aaron Rutenberg, and Leah Rutenberg (Danny Sims). She was lucky to have grandkids she loved more than she expressed: Lauren (Evan) Poole, Emily Perelle (Jason Mundell), Jenna Perelle, Madison Waldrup, Lexi Sims, Daniel Sims, and great-grandma to Tatum, Aspyn, and Palmer Poole. She was also a bonus mom to Sarah Noble (Chris). She leaves behind 11 nieces and nephews and 25 great-nieces and nephews. She is survived by her younger brother, Jerome Trierweiler (Jane). Trying to list everyone by name would require its own page.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Mark, her son Aaron, and her granddaughter Jenna.
A celebration of Ann's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jenna Kay Perelle's Memorial Scholarship at Wabash Valley Community Foundation (link), Gentiva Hospice (link), or
World Central Kitchen (link). She loved José Andrés and believed deeply in his mission to care for others in the midst of disasters and war zones.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the friends and relatives who stayed close during her final days, to Gretchen, Chelsea, Matt and her sister-in-law Karen for their extraordinary support, and to the caregivers and Gentiva Hospice team for their gentle and compassionate care.
Above all else, Ann's life was full, bold, and uniquely hers. She will be remembered for her sharp wit, deep concern for humanity, and giving anything she could to try to leave the world a better place in the ways that she knew how.
