Evelyn Ann Ward (Ann), age 78, passed away after a life filled with love, faith, and devotion to her family. Born on April 5, 1947, Evelyn was a lifelong resident of Bakersville, NC, and a cherished member of Cane Creek Free Will Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and found great joy in sharing conversations about the Bible.
For fifty-seven years, Ann was a devoted wife to her husband, Sherrill Ward. She was a loving mother to two sons: Steve Ward (Cindy) and Matthew Ward, both of Bakersville. Her legacy continues through her three grandchildren-Taylor, Madisson, and Jacob-and four great-grandchildren: Weston, Marley, Harper, and Titus. Ann is the beloved daughter of Trula Gardner. Dallas Gardner (stepfather), and Tilmon (Tim) Street (father) all preceded in death. She was the granddaughter of George and Bessie McKinney Rathbone, and Harlow and Clarsie Frye Street.
She is survived by her mother, Trula Gardner and siblings: Dean Gardner (Faye), Donald Gardner (Penny), Danny Gardner, James Gardner, Alane Hobson (Charles), Teresa Sparks (Richard), Eddie Gardner (Brenda, deceased), Lester Gardner (Betty), and Josh Gardner (Charlotte), along with her half-sister, Margo Boyle.
Ann's greatest joy was her family. She loved shopping, especially when it meant buying gifts for her children and grandchildren. She delighted in cooking for family gatherings and took pride in decorating her home and tending to her flowers. Her little dog, Buddy, was her constant companion.
For many years, Ann served as the office administrator at the family business, B&W Motors, where she formed lasting friendships.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Michelle Duvalt, whose compassionate care was a blessing during Ann's final year. The funeral service for Ann Ward will be on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev. Lonnie McClellan officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, September 11, 2025 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm in the Webb Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in the Cane Creek Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt 'Thank You' to the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge for their care of Ann during her illness. The family would also like to say "Thank You' to the following people, June Frye and Georgie Buchanan (deceased), two very special aunts who were like sisters.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Palliative Care, and CAP of the Blue Ridge, 236 Hospital Drive, Spruce Pine, NC 28777. Ann will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved her.
