Ann Marie Waskey

Ann Waskey died on Wednesday, February 4th. She was 82. Ms. Waskey graduated from Cal State Los Angeles before spending two years in India with the Peace Corps, followed by a year's teaching assignment in Point Barrow, Alaska.

She moved to Santa Maria in 1972 from Venice, California where she was a substitute teacher. Ms Waskey ran the Head Start program in Guadalupe for a time before she obtained her registered dietician training at Cal Poly. She became the Food Service director at Marian Hospital. She later supervised the food service at several Bay area hospitals. Ms Waskey moved over to human resources from operations at Aramark, a food service and management company. In her last position, she was vice president of human resources for the Compass Group, supervising human resources for 68,000 of its employees.

In her off work time, Ms Waskey enjoyed traveling, fly fishing with her husband, cooking, and art projects. She was an award winning quilter and an outstanding painter. She was very fond of and active in the Santa Maria Valley Quilt Guild. Her friends describe her as considerate of others, witty, capable, and a great listener. She generated contentment and joy with those that knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Masaoka and her siblings Shirley Roberts and William Waskey. No services or memorials are scheduled.
