Wawaka - On January 6th, Mrs. Anna Mae (Geiger) Gausmann of Diamond Lake, Wawaka,

Indiana was called to heaven leaving behind her husband and devoted companion of 62 years, her two beloved children and her five dearly loved grandchildren.

She was born at The Lucky Hospital, Wolf Lake, Indiana on August 12, 1941 to the late Elsie – Virginia Mae – (Dorgan) and Robert Van Geiger

Anna graduated from Wawaka High School and then wen on to further her education at Ball State Teachers College graduating in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science and then Ball State University graduating in 1966 with a Master of Science. She also attended IUPU Fort Wayne.

While in college, Anna was involved with Sigma Kappa Sorority, Queen of Delta Chi Fraternity Dance, Ball State Philanthropic Council, and was Student secretary for the

Family and Consumer Education Department.

While studying at Ball State Teachers College she met her future husband, Walter A. Gausmann. They were married in the Cosperville Baptist Church on August 10, 1963.

The Gausmanns have been active members and devoted servants to the Lord in the church throughout their lives as they served in many capacities. Mrs. Gausmann assisted in the design of the new addition to the church. They established their home at Diamond Lake in 1970. Mrs. Gausmann enjoyed camping, especially on the shores of Lake Michigan, with the family. She also enjoyed sewing and needle work projects, and family genealogy. Since she and her husband taught in the same school all of their careers, they enjoyed class reunions and surprise encounters with former students.

Most dear to her heart was spending time with her children and grandchildren,

photography and scrap booking the memories she shared with them.

Anna began teaching Family and Consumer Science at Wolf Lake High in 1963. Upon consolidation she transitioned to Central Noble High School in 1968. In addition to teaching, she assisted the architects in designing the current Central Noble High School Family and Consumer Science Department and later the Central Noble Middle School Department. She also served as chairman of the Northeastern Vocational Council, student teacher mentor, and judge for sewing and food preparation projects in the surrounding area. Mrs. Gausmann retired from teaching in 1995 after teaching 30 years.

Upon retirement Mrs. Gausmann and her husband volunteered in the Central Noble School system, served in offices of the Retired Teachers Association, and presented workshops and judged Science Fair projects.

Mrs. Gausmann is survived by her husband of 62 years, Walter Andrew Gausmann, one daughter and her husband, Maelynn and Chad Neely of Fort Wayne, Indiana, one son, Dr. Robert Andrew Gausmann of Columbus, Indiana, and was blessed with five grandchildren, Raeann Neely, Caleb Neely, William Gausmann, Mitchell Andrew Gausmann, and Ava Elizabeth Gausmann.

She was preceded in death by her parents Elsie (Virginia Mae) and Robert Van Geiger, brother Herbert Lee Geiger, mother and father-in-law Robert Warner and Ruth Trimble Gausmann and sister-in-law Gail Gausmann Kirby.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway S., Ligonier with calling from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.

Calling will also be Friday, January 9, 2026 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will follow the service at Cosperville Cemetery.
