Anna Bell "Ann" Coon Hellbusch died Sunday, February 2, 2025, after succumbing to the effects of dementia at 90 years. She was born on July 4, 1934, in Kansas City, Missouri to Beulah Anna Vaughn Hardy and Harry Henley Coon.
Ann was the fifth child in a family of eight children. Ann's siblings are Norris Alexander Coon, Harry Eugene "Gene" Coon, Ida Elizabeth Coon Ware, Rose Marie Coon Nix, Bobby G. "Bob" Coon, John William Coon and George Clark "Georgie" Coon. Ann is survived by one sibling, Bob Coon of Topeka, Kansas.
Ann attended school in Burlingame, Kansas. She married her first husband Alonzo Thomas "Bud" Hayes and they had five children together: Anna Caroline "Annie" Hayes, Alonzo James "Lon" Hayes, Alonzo Thomas "Tom" Hayes Jr, Belinda Sue Hayes Deal, and Timothy Chris "Tim" Hayes. Bud died in 1963 in a car accident. Ann is survived by all of her children except Annie who passed in 2015.
Ann worked in Topeka and met Loren Dale Hellbusch in June 1966. They married September 16, 1967. Loren has two children from his previous marriage: Audrey Gale Hellbusch Wilcox and Dwight Louis Hellbusch. The new family made their first home in Topeka together.
Loren and Ann raised the children together and were married 57 years. In that time they traveled and enjoyed multiple careers together. Ann attended cosmetology school and proudly worked as a hair dresser for many years, continuing to cut hair for family and friends all along. Ann and Loren made their home in Colorado and together owned and managed several rental houses, then bought a tractor-trailer in 1978 and began over-the-road trucking together. They retired and relocated permanently to Auburn, Kansas in 2004.
Ann is survived by her husband Loren; six children; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Community Church, 1819 SW 21st Street, Topeka KS 66604. Funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. Graveside service will be at 12:30 p.m. at Auburn Cemetery in Auburn, Kansas.
