Anna Hughes Obituary
Lorraine worked at the University of Louisville Hospital for 30 years. After retirement, she stayed active working in organizations such as NCNW, NAACP as well as being very active as a member of St. Stephens Baptist Church. She began attending Star Hope Baptist Church when her health began to decline. Lorraine's favorite past-time was picking up her grandson, Jeramy, to "ride around" and then stop at restaurants to eat food neither of them should be eating with their diabetes. Lorraine also worked with her grandson Jeramy in the Infield Ministry on several efforts to improve the Petersburg and Newburg communities.
Lorraine married Dennis Hughes Sr right after college. After her divorce, she worked to build a home for herself and two kids in the Petersburg neighborhood while also working to put her two children through college.
Lorraine leaves to greatly miss her a son, Dennis Martin Hughes Jr (Bette), a daughter, Angela Rebecca Kelly (Andre); three grandchildren Alethea Allen (Geoff), Imani Olivia Kelly and a grandson who preceded her in death, Jeramy Bahir Hughes; three great-grandchildren Myeah, Bastian and Kallel Allen; three brothers, Ernest Clay Harris (Lenora), Richard Harris (Earlica), Clarence Harris (Tonya) and William Russell Harris – deceased (Wendy); nephews Ernest Clay Harris Jr, Bruce Harris (Kara), Richard Harris Jr (Annie), Byron Mays, Ryan Harris (Khasha), Dylan McIntyre (LaWanda), Michael C Harris Sr, Derrick McIntyre (Nikki) and one niece Rachella Harris; three cousins raised as siblings, Connor (Sandra), Donna Matthews (Ronald) and Marvin Connor (deceased) as well as a host of family, friends and loved ones.
Lorraine, enjoy your reward and we will see you soon.

I fondly remember repeatedly watching Stuart Little and eating Nilla Wafers at my Aunt Lorraine´s home with my sister Gabriella. She watched and cared for us when we were young. Though I miss her, I rejoice knowing that she no longer groans in her earthly tent, but is in her heavenly dwelling before her Savior in glory; so I do not grieve like the rest of mankind, but with hope! One day, I too will be with her and our Lord forever.

Thank you Aunt Lorraine for always believing in me, caring for my children and all the consistent prayers I know you made for us since I arrived in Louisville at our shared alma mater over 33 years ago. Even before I had children, you made away for me to have a home to stay in school during the Fall semester of 1994 when I was evicted from my apartment. I was listening to my dad chatting with you, just that past Sunday before your passing, and the enthusiastic jubilation from you hearing of my long overdue, new career opportunity . Love you always.
